Sand in the tank, headlights, or electrical issues, the saga continues for the 4th time? (10/9/18)

So where did you have the ballasts mounted?

 

apparently in the gas tank.

 

They were mounted in front of the batter below the headlight, and I had the other one almost under the washer fluid reservoir. Far away from anything like ECU s etc.

 

Imo, send those hids back and just drive with the stock headlights. Do you really want to put something back on your truck that disables it when wet?

I've contacted the company to ask. I also have lots of shrink wrap and dielectric grease. Lol

 

Electrical pixies do weird shit. More to it than sparky sparkles and zap noises.

Super fucking unusual this happens? Definitely.

.. but there's a lot of weird shit when electricity is in play. I absolutely hate it, actually. The only things worse are software bugs.

 

I've been following this from the start (See Post #2). Nobody has to agree with me, but I'm taking credit for being right.

1. Dealer was full of shit on the first repair.
2. Problem was in the wiring harness (even though I didn't know there was an aftermarket wiring harness installed, it was still the cause. It might turn out to be a ballast or other device, but the water entry point was probably still a connector, so I say it still counts).

I'm glad it's been sorted out. What a nightmare for the OP.

Geez those are some pricy HIDs! You've learned some life lessons about aftermarket parts which in itself is priceless BTW both my daughters are in health care, with one being a nurse @ Cedars-Sinai. Can be stressful but rewarding career. Happy to hear you can once again start enjoying your truck!

Hard to sue them when it's aftermarket parts causing the issue

 

According to TRS's reply to my email yes. They claim the only port of entry for water would be the plugs themselves.

 

Already did, they apologized for my troubles and said I had to take it up with the garage, nothing they could or wanted to do.

I mean like have you tested your actual ballasts?

I know theoretically they all should be waterproof, but being made of molded plastic (assuming here) in a Chinese factory there's room for things to not be 100% as designed. Maybe yours are actually faulty.
