Hey guys new member to Tacoma world. Recently got a 2016 trd OR short bed and I'm already planning a cross country trip with it. I've seen a few threads regarding lifts and from what I can see most of them are for off-roading or asthetic purposes. Im trying to go for more of an additional weight carrying route in the rear. I already have a Tepui Ayer RTT that's approx 100 lbs with CBI 3rd gen overland bars and I plan on adding an additional 250-300 pounds of weight in the bed once everything's all set and done. Any help on what you guys think would be the best route to help hold that extra weight. I was thinking about adding an extra leaf spring, any help would be much appreciated!

if you are still stock, your rear end is 1 inch higher than the front. A 400 quad pounds leveled my truck out with gear in the back seat.

    You should be fine

Interesting, I guess it's just my eyes then because I felt like I noticed some sagging in the back with just the tent on it. I'm taking it cross country for about a month so I also don't wanna wear out the stock pack

I'd say throw in an add a leaf for now and look into replacing the leaf packs entirely whenever you are ready to upgrade the entire suspension (this will happen eventually, trust me;))

yes. They will raise 5/8 inch when unloaded. Are you planning to off road? They will limit your travel and flex

Not off the top of my head. I went straight to dakar leafs and then added the add-a-leaf to those later because I'm so heavy fully loaded for trips. I had the toytec one on my '96 Tacoma but I also have a lift on the front so I'm a bit in the dark on trying to add strength without lift. Those sumo springs look pretty legit, or air bags

    I'm in the same boat....
Plan on buying a pop up camper for my short bed. I met another taco owner with one on the road, he started with air bags and mentioned had been bottoming out on some off roading . He ended up adding 2 leafs to each spring. From a local shop here called Spring Works which make em and the u bolts in house. I got a quote for 1300 installed in 4 hrs. But been noticing some off the shelf proformace brands for lift for under that price.
Anyone want to chime in on some tutoring, pls do..

For a popup camper go with sumosprings, install yourself in about 30 minutes

The best option to maintain flex and off road while also being able to adjust/carry a load or trailer occasionally is air bags with cradles, much better than those sumo's.

I'm looking at the swift model from 4wheel campers. After some addons and water etc.. It's getting close to1200+lbs. You feel the air bag can perform off road with that top weight?

Shit yea, add air accordingly, they are rated 5000lbs + if I remembered. With the cradles you don't loose any drop at all, bump will be maintained according to psi, so don't run them overly hard/full.

Had Firestone airbags on my 02 Taco.
I'm pulling my same trailer, accessories the same (canopy, equipment, etc) decided on sumos this time instead of the air.
They both perform the same. (Opinions here mind you.)
I'm very content with the Sumos, thank you.

I'll be doing the same sometime in the next year. The add-a-leaf isn't cutting it.
