Don't buy a 2016 or 2017 Tacoma. Wait until 2018.

I probably would have gotten a better deal if I bought my '16 in 2018. Good advice.

Nice. You are wrong on every single account. You have displayed your complete ignorance and lack of any shred of character.

The video is me, accelerating in my truck. You can see the shift flair from 3rd to 4th gear. The acceleration pedal position is constant throughout the video.

I have a question. You stated I think this does it only once when cold, as your temp indicates. Is this an indication of the fluid viscosity changing with temperature thus not allowing the flair to occur when warm ? And if it only does it when cold, would that be as detrimental as if it occured all the time ?

That is a good hypothesis. I am thinking the cause is the different expansion rates of the aluminum and the steel allowing enough clearance for leak down when cold. That was the cause of the flairing in the 2nd gen 5 speeds. Sonnax created a fix for that transmission, and they will likely capitalize on the 6 speed as well. I am hoping Toyota corrects the issue first.

So can we assume if the flair is only there when cold, not warm, the tranny operates normally and their are no issues when warm. Also this could present itself more so in cold months rather than warm. The fix being the valve body replacement. So when warm there is no wear occuring ?
I found this was a good read on the subject for others to read.

I think you are exactly right on all accounts, and the article is a good read for sure.

So is there that much damage being done when initially cold and flairing in your video that will shorten the life of the tranny and by what estimate?

This is a good read as well. This was Sonnax's solution to the 2nd gen transmission flairs.

The 4th gear apply clutch will wear prematurely. It is like putting the truck into neutral and back into drive on the 3-4 shift. I have to let off the gas on the shift to minimize the wear.

    I think it's all subjective and owner to owner specific. I owned a 2015, 2016 and now a 2017.
Per the Fuelly app my 2015 averaged 19.5mpg. My 2016 stock would see 23.5 all day long. Yea I had some initial issues but the flash cured that. My 2017 doesn't have any of the issues the early 2016 had either. I can't find a single thing wrong where others are complaining about everything. Yea the 3.5/6spd is not the low end torque monster the 4.0/5spd was. I'll regear in the near future to 4.88s and solve that. I'll say my truck as it sits is seeing 17.5mpg on 34's and I saw 18.5 today on a long road trip. I'll take the 6spd and 3.5. Now don't get me wrong. I'd love to have a 6spd 4.0

I think the gears would be a nice modification.

I have my eyes set on a new '17 Tacoma TRD sport. Felt a little uneasy after reading this as it'll be my first Tacoma. Issues seem to be hit and miss. Any advice if I still do decide to buy before taking the truck off the lot? Are people with 2017's still having them check the ATF fluid levels?
    Thanks

Yes, take it for a long test drive and get something else if you are not happy with the torque or shifting. Please. Oh, and welcome to TW

I disagree on the GTO. I had an 04 and it was one of the most solid vehicles I have ever owned. Heads, cam, long tubes and suspension and it was an incredible car. It had a few issues with front strut rub and basic wear items but it was incredibly comfy and the interior quality was obvious it wasn't built by GM NA. Also, you do realize the original GTO was a grandmas car with a ton of motor and the GTO is supposed to be a touring car instead of a trailer park decoration...a la Camaro?
