Yup that's a great solution. Thinking about doing that later down the road once I get my bed drawers figured out.

There are only a few options, but I don't see M8 which is what I have bought previously... hmm.

 

You also have to think about weight distribution. I believe 500-600 lbs would be doable, but only if the weight is properly distributed across the fiberglass roof. 500 lbs or even 200 lbs static weight put to the surface area of a dime is going to crack the roof.

 

Absolutely. My rack has 4x4 plates that sandwich the fibreglass which is key. If you look at contractor cap racks they are very small distribution but as long as you sand which the fibreglass it's supposedly strong (asked the cap guy lots of questions when building my cap rack)

 

Drivers side; as a solo camper, that's where I always am and I can't imagine a situation where I will ever camp near traffic.

 

So I just got my RTT mounted. Going on a trip next Wednesday, so I decided to test it out few days in advance and make sure everything is in working order and I know what goes where. I am impressed! This thing is amazing. Way better than I thought it would be. I was completely floored by the fact that the annex floor is removable! Looks like it rained the last time the guy I bought from went camping, so the floor was disgusting. Removed it, hosed it down, cleaned with a broom, hosed it off and it's clean again! Hanging on a ladder drying right now.

The annex is HUGE. I did not expect it to be that big! Can easily sleep two, or put a folding table and some chairs in there.

You guys were not kidding when you said it was a tight fit to get it on/off a roof rack. My fingers are beat up to shit, but I just ordered none of these bad boys off Amazon for the future use:

Oh, and while we are here.... Anyone used an inflatable mattress on top of the pad? I have a Coleman Queen size. But it is 1" wider than the tent. I think it would work?

 

I wouldn't use anything wider then the tent... could potentially tweak a cross bar... or pop your air matress...

 

But this way you get EAF points all day everyday

 

Makes sense. Maybe I will just get one of those tri-fold memory foam pads

Is anyone here interested in a RTT lifting mechanism for their garage? I backed the myLIFTER project on Kickstarter over a year ago and received my pledge rewards a long time ago. I just never got around to needing or using them anymore. They're all brand new and unopened.

Each motor can lift 50lbs of direct pull or 100lbs if used with a pulley. Seeing that most RTTs weigh between 100-200lbs (for 2-person to 4-person setups), you'd probably only need 2 of these motors from me to lift your tent of your truck and stored on the ceiling. The motors are controlled via your mobile device and can be synchronized or individually controlled if they're hoisting different items.

I'm willing to let all 7 items go for a price of $500 (total retail value is about $870) and shipped at your expense. Or if you just want 2 motors then $250 shipped at your expense. I'm located in San Diego for anyone that can meet up here.

I ended up just buying a memory foam topper and cutting it down, went to the local seamstress and had her sew a cover for it.

 

It was a custom job. Wouldn't be too hard to reproduce.

 

Unfortunately Zach is no longer making these bed racks

 

The only difference for me is I use a moving blanket to cover the painted surfaces. Works great.

 

I wanna see more pics of the overhang, I have been looking into this tent for awhile and have waited for someone to get one mounted up

 

I've got a 2003 Tacoma and a CVT Mt Shasta (not the extended version) and I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to get it mounted. I have a used Leer fiberglass cap, but it's not reinforced or one of the heavy duty ones, and it doesn't have any racks on it. I don't think I could just drill in some roof racks there.. I'm starting to think about building an external ladder-rack style around the Leer canopy for it. Has anyone done this DIY and have they had any issues? Would love to know what to consider when building a DIY setup.
