Well, the melty wire can't be a good thing.

I'd really like to see both sides of (what appears to be) the circuit board sticking out of the potting compound. [The flat thing where the melted wire is soldered ).

Does that melted wire go to the light or the relay? Did you have the ballast case bolted down to metal?

The melted wire is for the led high beams, no relays, it just plugs into the factory plugs.
You can't see the other side of the board. The other side's sealant is flush with the cap with a wire.

The ballasts and the driver for the LEDs were attacked to flat surfaces using double sided tape. 3 were on metal. The other one was on plastic

Is TRS the reseller of the lighting or the manufacturer.

Either way, that sucks that they do not stand behind the product they are selling/manufacturing. You could get the word out about their shitty service to others (IE outside this thread). Since if I were in the market, I would like to hear your issue with them, so I would not buy from them.

In going to give them a little longer to see what they say... I think they are the seller

It's hard for me to tell, can you tell if the white/silver that's exposed on some of the cables is metal braid or is it just white sections of the plastic braid? I'm curious if they are using shielded cable.

Also, stupid question: do you have auto headlights? Basically I just want to confirm beyond a doubt that you have the problem even with the headlights off.

Looking at the installation instructions (not sure if the one you have), it does have a connection to the battery. Can you state which kit(s) part numbers you have?

A new bolt here, a new bolt there, a new bolt everywhere.
One question during these times did you have anything plugged into your cigarette lighter? I had an issue with a portable charger back feeding through the cigarette lighter when plugged in the truck would not turn on because the ECU already thought it was on or off when the truck was running. Even the keyless entry would not work. Not good when my key was inside and my doors were locked. Maybe you have something bridging to a ground with the water if you didn't have anything plugged into the cigarette lighter

The truck is CANBUS with lights tied into the system so there should always be electricity going to the different peripherals even when not in use. That's why some guys have their trucks freaking out when going with LED interior lighting. If the driver is shorting then it's possible there's a voltage irregularity that's fucking up the ecu and anything tied to the system.

Your statement tells me you have never seen what happens when driving here on salted roads. Storm drains get backed up with ice and large puddles are everywhere. The only difference is there is no tide. Also, you end up riding through a fine mist of salt that you can actually taste inside the cab that comes through the ventilation system with all the windows closed. I ride with the recirculation on and that helps eliminate it.

I agree. winters here in pittsburgh when they dump salt on the road it looks like gravel roads then it will warm up and rain and you are basically driving in salt water and stuff goes EVERYWHERE.

Now I'm even more glad I don't live somewhere with winter months. I wouldn't want to deal with that every single year. It's bad enough when I want to go snowboarding and it coats the bottom of the truck once every other week or so.

Yep, I have no idea. Drive it in at winter. And work under dripping ass cars all winter. And work on the rust the rest of the year

Nice!, so what makes you think salt doesn't get everywhere air can go?

I have auto headlights, but I leave them in the off position during the day.

I'm not sure what part numbers I have, I have the H11 kit for the 2016 taco.

The HIDs feed off the battery, with relays etc. The LEDs that have the melted wire you asked about are direct plug and play, no battery feeds. LEDs don't require the extra juice. The LEDs are the XC led H11s from trs.

The silver you see appears to be just plastic /nylon type material. A braided wire loom

Making a new thread titled.. "TRS HID/LED kit disabled my truck -- $14k repair bill" might light a fire under TRS. Might get more people looking into it as well. I'm sure anyone with the kit who sees the thread would find themselves reading though it.
