Black Tail lights

The light output was definitely a concern of mine. Surprisingly, the smoked Spyder lights that I have are brighter than the stock tailights; there are more LEDs installed.

 

Yes, I put on two coats and it was perfect for me. Blacked out but still shining bright when I hit the brakes or turn on the lights. Some people reported doing more coats, but I thought it would make mine too dark. I'll have to take you a picture of mine. I did them two years ago and they are just now fading enough that I think I'll put another coat on.

 

Just put these on to replace my cracked taillight. They're just slightly dimmer than OEM with a slightly tinted lense.

 

in MN this will get you pulled over, no matter how bright they light up. nice look tho

Im a huge fan of VHT Nightshades, i did my last truck with that, followed with clearcoat and 6 years later they were flawless when i sold the truck.

 

Can you just tape off around the light then spray away, is it necessary to take the light out?

 

Nightshades instructions:

1. remove tail lights from truck. Tape off the reverse light if you like (i did so the light was still bright when backing up)
2. lightly wetsand, clean and dry
3. apply one coat of nightshades and let dry
4. apply more coats till its dark enough, but be careful not to go too dark
5. once dry, apply two coats of clearcoat, let that dry overnight and youre done!

Ive seen some people even get their taillights covered in a tint film, almost like window tint, but flexible. But that looks like shit if there's any bubbles, and it has potential to peel/sunfade/bubble.

 

Has anybody had any issues with their depos? Leaking or fogging up or anything?

 

Mine have only been in for about a week, but has rained a lot over the past week. No leaks yet.

 

Mine have been in about 6 months, and no issues at all. Quality is top notch.

 

Yup, I agree, bout a year with them, no issues. Very high, oem like quality.

 

Any long term reviews on these? Someone that's had them a year or two?

 

Yeah man, these are seriously top shelf quality. OEM like quality. The connectors are just like OEM. They are equally as bright, all sealed an no leaks whatsoever. I keep my truck relatively clean, but sometime dirty af, these lenses are clear and shiny as the day I bought them going on approx 2yrs now. I recommend, Just buy them, you will have no ragrets!!
