@Blackdawg or anybody I guess. Has anyone ever seen a tent rack that would slide back like a drawer to allow access to the bed instead of opening like yours monte? Any reasons why this would be a bad idea over one that just opened up

    Interesting.

Only thing I've seen someone think of is trying to make a slide like that and store it under a soft topper...seemed pointless to me in that scenario.

However. I still don't see the point. Why would you want to do that?? Like ben said you loose the tail gate and gain little access to the bed.

Yes. All steel lines. Delete abs. Manual rear BPV. Dual diaphragm booster. And t100 mc.

That's a cool idea man. The best thing Jen and I did was raise it on a different rack. Something about sleeping up a bit higher idk. Plus the ladder works better. I'd consider doing something similar to what Monte did with the raising rack. Tailgate as a space to use is big while the tent is up.

Yea because lowering it was the best thing I ever did to Frank in terms of handling. Felt so much more planted. Way more fun to drive offroad.

    Hey Guys !!
Had to bud in here , figuring this would be a good place to get some help with choosing a Ham radio. I'm going for my tech ticket exam in 2 weeks , don't own a radio yet nor never have owned one . Been using a CB for trail coms but that's all I see it's good for. I decided to go ham after doing some exploring in Ut. , I'd. , and beautiful Wy. this past spring.
Anyway ... My question number 1 is what (mobile ) radio is good and simple at the same time ? If you could pick a mid line radio what would ya get ? and what antenna ?
Looking at all the advertisements is too confusing for for a person with no experience.
#2 question is ... How has the ham helped you in the back country ?
I read the reports where BlackDog used his to call his dad but I won't have a dad to call so I'm wondering how it would be useful ?

I apologize if these might be boring questions to the experienced but I gotta start somewhere just like everyone else :)
I don't want cheap nor do I want expensive , guess I'm looking for middle of the road radio. From reading the exam book , I'm thinking a multi band ?
Not sure what's up with my limited knowledge so any and all help is greatly appreciated.
    Thank's , John

A multi band is a good choice and pretty standard. A dual band is pretty common. It'll cover 2m and 7cm which is what a majority of people use. Especially 2m.

We moved to ham for the simple reason of range. We can talk much further apart then with cb and it is more reliable.

Another feature we use is called aprs. We can literally track eachother on a cellphone or tablet. And if it its an i gate it'll get put online so our family can track is and wecan also communicate with them outside off cell service via aprs. I can just flat out talk to my dad if he can echo link into a near repeater or a dstar repeater from anywhere.

It's just handy and better then cb.

That said we still use our cb radios a lot. So don't ditch it.

Mike and ben run a great starter dual band. It's a kenwood. Idk what one but I'm sure they will tell you. I run an icom. And it's not a cheap one.

Well it's a good thing I took that booster brett. My stock one is a double bolt flange and the t100 mc is a 4 bolt flange.

However, the mounting studs are way to short..

    Fuck.

You wouldn't think there would be that much difference in something like that. Can the studs be pressed out and use a longer bolt?

Thanks for the reply . I was originally looking at the Yeasu models and I'm glad I asked the question here . I like that Kenwood .... Why ?
IDK ? Probably cuz someone with experience recomended it ! Bwahahahahahahahahahahahaha !!
Mike , where was that picture taken in your sig ?
    Beautiful !
At this point in time I'm thinking of exploring Mt. next year. It would be nice to meet some of you lucky Guy's .... Lucky because you live where you do. Long drive from Pa. The trip out isn't bad , the trip home becomes more and more depressing the farther east I travel.
Hey Monte , what app are you using for the tracking ? Is it also good for navigation?
I was using the Gaia app for a bit on my iPad with a satellite receiver but don't care for it much, I've switched to just paper and my Garmin GPS to find where I'm at. It's a hassle but gets me going. I got a cell phone (flip top) when I was 45 so being tech savvy is one of my handicaps.
Upgraded to the iPhone years ago but it's too small for map reading.

Does BabyT use his ham to track chipmunks? :D Seeing that collar makes me wonder wtf ? That antena must be hell in his little burrow! Poor chippy.

There are lots of differences I'm finding.

I think Id have to take it apart to do that....and I have no idea how to do that.

We use aprsdroid with android phones or tablets and. Mobilinkd TNC. You can sorta use it for nav but it's not a GPS.

Mike Marc and I run backcountry navigator for that also an android app.
