We put between 200,000 - 1/2 million miles on them. The 200,000 mile trucks were maintained by oil changes and brake pads. The 1/2 million trucks took a little work to keep them going but way better than a truck payment.
We bought new and Shiney on a Friday and on Monday they were throwing mud and hopping up hills over logs, vibrating in mud until they took hold. Amazing trucks. Beat them daily at work.
Bought a farm, changed jobs to a utility company. Company trucks.
Used a 3/4 ton Ford on farm. Needed big power. Now I dont need that power. Bought a tractor. Wanted to go back to my Toyota... Well, they changed the name to Tacoma, put in a 6 cylinder and jacked the price to $42,000. What happened? Is there a gold bar in the back seat of these Pro's?
Can't even haul a piece of plywood without straps in the mini bed. I knew that but ... $42,000.?
I'm not knocking on the Toyota.
Just knocking my head on the price of a little puddle jumper pick-up.
    Ok... done.
    Yell at me....ha

Buy an off road and use the extra money for a better suspension than the Pro comes with and a few payments :)

The old 4 cylinder toy conquered the oilfields. Beat the snot out of them 5 days a week.
I sure wanted to go back to the small tough tough as nails Toyota truck. Made me alot of money.
I hate to say I've worked all these years and I find myself bitch'n about the price of a mini truck. ...but I guess I am. Found this site and looked for info....
I'm the #1 fan of the ol'4 banger making me money.
I thought I would be fine buying the best mini.....Oh yea, they now call them "Tacoma Pro"..!!! I guess I'm an ol'timer but I'm only early fiddies in age.
If I buy a Pro my wife would chase me with a iron skillet.
I'm sure she would say get another 3/4 ton Ford so I can haul my mother-in-law..!!!
I want the best mini Toy.
Back in the day,,... My brother and I would remove some of the Toyota letters on the tailgate so it would just say "YO".
Thats what people expected. Thats how they know ed they pulled up behind us,, if the mud and dirt wasn't too thick.
Now, I gotta roll with Taco..???!!?
    Hmmmm....
Ok... I am playing with the folks on this site a little...but... Gee whiz...
I hate to not buy the best from a truck that fed my family well. I want one but,,, An iron skillet on the back'a my head hurts...

Third gen tacomas are nothing compared to the 1st and 2nd gen pickups. Prepare for disappointment

My old farm dog , "Fluffy" in profile pic is sad. He wanted to rule the backseat of a new Pro.

    Then buy one.

Supply/Demand and inflation are a nasty bitch. I am struggling to justify the cost of a new pickup myself.

Toyota should give me a Pro for the miles I put on so many toyota trucks and promoting them.... My dog ,"Fluffy" looking out the sliding rear winder would sell more Pro's than any advertisement.
Cement is color if Toyota is listening.

Bullshit. They are awesome trucks if it's what you need. Some have problems yeah, but I haven't had a single one. It's been amazing. Yes the prices are inflated, but remember you get what you pay for. At least this way you won't turn out like the guy on cbc news last week with a 6 year old ford that you can't get parts for anymore.

So buy a vintage truck or cruiser in great condition (should be easy to find rust free in Texas lol) and either fix it up or leave it alone lol.....should be a damn sight cheaper than 42000 :D

Go buy the 4 banger version, with a manual. It sounds like it's what you had, no need to go pro. I'll admit I wanted a pro when they announced them for the great white north, but when the price came out, I said whaaaaaat?!?! Haha. The good news in Canada is the new option of a trd off road, I got mine for 17k less then the pro would have set me back!! That's probably like 5k in usd, lol. For me the off road is perfect as I didn't want leather anyway. Hood scoop, take it or leave it. I'm not running from ISIS across the desert, so the suspension would be a waste for me. For me the only option I would have liked but couldn't get was the JBL sound system, not even available in the pro up here anyway............Toyota open your ears let us add a few options to your trucks.

Everything has gone up, I too am in my fifties now, sure we say remember the 80's, but look at what we got paid. I made 1/5th of what I do now, too damn bad my body isn't 5 times better then it used to be.

If you want a new Toyota( I won't use the Taco word), go buy one. Sounds like you sure as hell deserve one, life's short.
