I replaced the rear shocks on my 2011 SR5 this weekend with the Monroe OE Spectrums and when removing my rear tires I noticed they needed to be replaced

Going to box store that starts with Wal, their policy is that they will only mount the recommended size as indicated on the inside door panel which read 245/75/16. I wanted a larger tire and I went with four 265/75R/16 Sumitoma Encounter HT (60,000 mile) at $127 each a local tire dealer. It isn't an aggressive tire (I thought with a more aggressive tread I would use more gas, but I could be wrong), it is an all-season highway tread that holds the road well, and is very quiet. I notice with the larger tire, I hardly have any lean as I did with the smaller tire . . which I still had with the new shocks installed.

The sky opened up as soon as I drove out of the tire dealer and it poured, and these tires perform very well in wet weather. I did no mods or lifts, the truck is stock and the tire fits comfortably without rubbing or any trimming of the mud guards.

It is about 1" larger height wise giving the truck added ground clearance and the 65's are narrower than the 70's . . . I did not want a wider tire. What I did notice is that the larger tire now exactly matches the speed on my GPS! As Marshall R mentioned the 265/75R/16 is less expensive than a 265/70/16 and also not as wide. I wanted a higher tire and not the width or a 70.

I'm posting this for those who are hesitating on going to a larger tire size.

They fit in the wheel well, the truck sits higher, less lean, quiet, less bounce, smoother ride, no trimming or need of lift to fit, and as an added bonus (for me at least) the truck looks great with the larger size.

For an extra $100 I had a wheel alignment, which I always do when I replace my tires, why spend the money on new tires only to have them wear out before their time?

That's my story and I'm sticking to it. http://www.sumitomotire.com/trucks/products/Encounter/EncounterHT.aspx

You're right about what makes you happy, unless the truck is strictly a work truck. I leveled my truck and it's not really how I wanted it to turn out. The 3rd gen tacoma is a bigger truck and 33s seem a little small on it to me. So now I'm waiting for my parts to come in and get my 35s put on.

How will going up one size in tires effect the speedometer reading from the middle display? I tend to use that because it is dead accurate compared to the actual speedo which is about -2mph off anyway - reads 68mph when going 70mph.

Run what ya got, no shame in that. It will give you time to think about what you want in the next 30 or 40 K miles. :anonymous:

Yes, I'm aware of how to calculate the size difference. I've read the thread and I realize that the speedo will be corrected with larger tires. I'm asking how/if the electronic speed readout (from the middle display) will be effected.

The electronic readout is dead accurate on my truck, compared to the incorrect speedometer.

The needle and the digital display are connected together. A 5% bigger tire will read 5% slow

I use the middle display exclusively since my analog display started jumping all over the place one day on the highway and couldn't tell how fast I was going. When I set my cruise control to 78 my waze app showes 80-81 so I'm hoping once I install the 75's this should be fixed
