We have tons of the v8s at work and I work with plenty that own them. No problems.
But we also have a few eco boost and work with people that have the eco boost. Garbage.
Last time I drove the ecoboost it had no balls pulling a trailer with 2 coils of wire on them. Coils were each 3100lbs. 750MCM quadplex cable.

But when it came to moving coils of 250MCM pyro in the bed of our powerstroke that was nice.

Hell one of the guys had the turbos blow when pulling a trailer full of switch gear. All our fleet leases are coming up on the fords in february, some reason I doubt we'll be keeping them lol.

I've run multiple GMs past 100k with zero issues. Same way with my Tacoma, issue free a year later.

It's a lot more than the 30k the other guy mentioned. I don't buy a vehicle to keep it 25 years. 3-4 and I'm ready for something else

Not me. I had my last car for 12 years. We plan to drive our Civic and Tacoma for a long time, like 10 years or more

No problems with mine. Don't see too many in the shop for major repairs. Only a few turbos changed that I've heard through our shops. A few issues with the timing chains but there is a TSB on it. Seen one motor replaced but the guy drove 44k without changing the oil. Biggest issue is probably carbon build up, but it's supposedly taken care of with the new motors

You read these threads as a new truck owner (and new to Toyota) and your first inclination is to freak out. But I'm thinking that these places artificially increase the concentration of problem truck owners. I haven't heard the howl on mine (800 miles) but it's early. My hood is pretty stable too but not perfect so maybe just at the good end of the spectrum even though the adhesive is bad. Anyway, I suspect that given those circumstances, "drive more, worry less" is the right attitude. That said, this forum can make it hard to do that.

I voted haven't heard it just to see the results. Its slightly more no than yes. So its a 50/50 roughly that you might have an issue, might not. Even if there is an issue no one has had a catastrophic failure or anything where the truck is a complete write off or something.
I think its just a minor issue for now and will be fixed soon enough.

I don't think its something that should be greatly worried about. A concern yes. But not something to be losing sleep over or regretting your purchase.
For toyota's sake and their reputation I'm sure they will address the issue and issue a recall when they find a fix.

I took mine on another 46 one way mile trip and with 4 adult passengers I began to hear the dreaded hollowing noise everyone is describing 5 miles into it at interstate speeds. I got concerned because I know I have LCA plugs installed so I ruled wind noise out at first.

As I drove further and paid more attention while the other passengers were talking, I still had doubt it was the rear diff so when traffic allowed I went from left to far right lane almost at angle to let the wind hit it differently and the noise stopped and returned when I straighten up.
The noise stayed for another 20 miles and as I came upon a different road stretch it just disappeared.
On the way back I never heard the noise again for the entire 46 mile trip and I’m now convinced its some kind of wind vortex noise or tire/road combo that may have caused it in my case.

However, I’m pretty sure that with these many postings here some ppl are bound to have an issue caused by some type of mechanical cause, but if it keeps returning after diff replacements there maybe something else going on here that a single factory TSB fix may not address them all.
Only time and miles may tell us what maybe really going on here.

    Just thought I’d share
    Cheers!

They drove mine on the hoist at 55mph and found the same sound. It's not wind for most of us. When you do hear it, push into neutral and it will probably go away. Then you know it's not wind

Yeah I get that, and said that. I have run vehicles on a lift before like they did yours and don't agree as it actually made more noise, also IMO you need to have the road load on the vehicle to properly diagnose it, but that's just IMO.

Hope they're able to help you out as it has got to be a frustration situation
    Cheers!

The older 5.4 ford triton motors had tons of pulling power until they started blowing spark plug's out of the head's....now that's a problem...

They did both. They heard it on the road and Toyota told them to change diff fluid. It didn't help when they drove it on the road again. The tech said that lifting it and hearing the grinding gave more of an impression that it was the pinion bearing.

My DC OR they removed the rear drive shaft and drove it with front wheels. The noise went away. I really pushed toyota about this and I asked them what they were going to do for my time and inconvenience. The gave me a 125,000 mile 8 yr extended warranty for my troubles. I am on my 2nd differential and the noise is still there.

I'm debating changing the fluid out and putting redline in, anyone do this? I'm worried that if I change it and then claim the howl later, Toyota can say its my fault. I've heard some say theirs was low others say they replaced and still howl. Maybe just have Toyota swap the fluid on warranty dime.
