New owner with tire/wheel questions!

Hello all! I just purchased a 2012 TRD Sport 4x4 Tacoma! It is amazing i have wanted one forever and i couldn't be more happy with it! I have been through the forums and read a lot about tire/ wheel options but haven't seen anyone ask what I'm about to ask and if they have forgive me for being ignorant. Ha! So i just have the stock 265-65-17 setup on my truck and i have a couple questions:

1. How big can i go on tires with no lift or leveling kit? ( i'm wanting to go to a 265-75-16)


2. And my other question is something you may have noticed above, will i be able to put on a smaller wheel (16 in instead of 17 in ) without an issues?
Also on the wheels I'm looking to do a 8' wide with a 0 offset because i would like them to stick out a bit, not a crazy amount, but just enough to beef it up a bit. Will this work for me?

3. I really have no desire to lift my truck as of right now but i am mildly interested in the leveling kit available for the truck, so question number 3 is if i have the 2" leveling kit put on will i be able to have larger tires without any rubbing issues (maybe 285's) ?

Again sorry for my ignorance but this is not only my first tacoma but my first truck as well so i am new to this so any tips, information, or suggestions are welcomed!

1. 265-75-16's are the biggest you can go without a lift or leveling kit and no modification. You can go bigger than 265's without a lift however you will be rubbing all over on suspension components (upper control arms) cab mounts, fender liners and mud flaps.

2. You can fit a 16 inch wheel without issue. Any smaller than 16 inches and you won't clear the brake caliper.

3. You will not be able to fit 285's with a leveling kit without rubbing. I ran a full 3" suspension lift and still rubbed on the fender liners and mud flaps with 285's. I had to do a fair amount of cutting and bending to fit 285's and not touch anything.

You can keep the 17 inch wheels and go 265-70-17's

 

Just for clarification OP, 265/70/17's are the exact same diameter and width as 265/75/16's.

I would like to keep the 17 inch wheel however i can't find the 17 inch version of the wheel i have my eyes on. I was thinking of this wheel. I like it and other styles that are like it.

Oh yes i have seen this one i was just unsure if going to a 9 in wide wheel would be an issue ? if not thats great!

Hi I might be able to help shed some light also. 265/75/16 Hankooks on a 09 with Ballistic Jesters 16x8 Bilsteins 5100 all the way around set at 1.75 on front. I rub on mud guards. Next time I will go back to 265/70/16 to keep from rubbing. And on the rims go to ebay and check out CWO Custom Wheel Outlet reasonable prices. View from drivers side to rear with a little sticking out. Here's a link. They have a calculator for fitment.

Welcome to T W . As others have said . You will learn a lot on this sight. Now when looking at after market wheels keep in mind to look at the center bore. Ower trucks are hub centric . Meaning the wheel is centered by the hub if you go bigger then 106mm center bore you have a greater chanse of vibration. Good luck !
