    Would not help, only hurt.

Honestly I think Toyota could have done a better job with the structural components of the bed. Aside from rear bed support issue we are currently discussing, under the plastic bed rail caps is weak painted sheet metal. If you run a topper, which sits on the plastic bed rails by design, the plastic will dig into the sheet metal. It's stupid. The KB Voodoo products are built to address this issue. You can see pics of bed rail damage, and solution over here.

One of my buddies who runs his truck hard (also LT truck) and has bed bars to support a RTT, over time, the bed bars have caved and deformed the underling bed sheet metal (by a few CM). Again, stupid design.

In the end I think Toyota went a little too cheap. Simple manufacturing changes could have easily addressed these issues, IMO.

And I always think it's a good idea to remember the cumulative effects of harsh vibrations.

Watch this amusing video of an unbalanced washing machine rip itself apart in about 4 minutes.

Did a quick trip to the southern sierra's this weekend. The new driveshaft I had made earlier this year decided to let go on the Sherman Pass Jeep trail. What a noise and violent release of energy that was.... It didn't get hit on anything, never do any crazy wheeling or something that would warrant a failure. The splined piece that holds on the flange sheered off right after the carrier bearing. I'll be having a good long talk with the shop first thing tomorrow morning, letting them know they put myself, vehicle and personal belongings in an extremely bad situation.

    287 miles home with FWD.

Terrible about the drive shaft. I'm curious about the resolution and explanation from O.D. keep me posted somehow, either in here or PM. Very curious. Thx.

    Yes
When you had the double cardon drive shaft made are you sure that they actually changed the front shaft too ? is that still the OE front half ?

Edit - I should clarify that I am wondering if the double cardon joint itself would have added enough extra weight and stress the OE front shaft and cause that ?

I'm just curious what makes you think this failure was a shops fault?

    Will do.

The entire driveshaft is new. The only thing reused was the front and rear flanges.

Original driveshaft made it 135,000 miles and 11 years. New driveshaft made it 6,000 miles and 9 months. Either they used undersized components or they got a defective part from their supplier. Either or the driveshaft is their product and their responsibility. Maybe I'm missing something?

Also, I'll be adding a driveshaft strap/loop after this is resolved. If that would have let loose on the highway or faster speeds it could have acted like a pole vault and/or caused some substantial damage.

Mythubusters busted that driveshaft pole vault myth!

Haha I understand the concerns though. Better safe than sorry.
