1st post! So, I'm in the market for a Frontier or a Tacoma.

Tomorrow morning I'm going to look at a 2007 Tacoma V6 Access Cab and would like the communities thoughts on condition, price, and what to look out for.

    http://albany.craigslist.org/cto/5775109215.html

    Ad:
2007 Toyota Tacoma - V6 engine - 4WD on demand - Automatic transmission - Towing package - Power windows, locks - Access cab - Has Raider cap, which also has lockable roof rack - Includes regular tires and studded snow tires - NEW FRAME installed by Toyota - $9900 FIRM

    Additional Notes:
Owners: bought from 2nd owner in 2008 with 12k
Rust (body or frame): minor undercarriage rust, frame replaced under recall in June
Known problems: a/c does not work. compressor clutch?
Tires: ~1yr left on both sets
Towing: a trailer once across country, log splitter a few times
    Plowing: none
Any noise/clatter from timing chain: none
Body damage: scratches from brush (pictured)
Driving: 2WD and 4WD drives fine
Other: 2014 accident - replaced one damaged leaf spring, other rear leaf spring replaced in 2015

I should have asked about the brakes.

    I read through this site:
    http://www.autotrader.com/car-reviews/2005-2010-toyota-tacoma-used-car-review-140921
and saw the 'common problems' here:

Any comments or suggestions are appreciated.

Hmmm the ac clutch would be a concern.. it can get expensive quickly... clutch... compressor...etc.. but nothing that can't be fixed..

If your planning on rebuilding this thing into a serious wheeler.. then a 4wd access cab is a great start... plus you'll be replacing most of the parts that are worn out or not strong enough.

I bought my 06 access cab back in 2011 with 35k miles on it... it was stock.. I've rebuilt almost everything on it except the transmission and engine.

You will find that they are easy to work on.. IF... you can get the old bolts off.. they replaced the frame tho.. so that may have helped keep those old bolts and nuts from seizing up completely...here's my 06 now.

Stay away from frontier ... the 4.0 v6 is a horrible motor, same motor that was in my pathfinder... it's a money pit! ... huge concern has been taken care of ... rust!, head gasket leaks??? ... beyond that it looks fairly solid! You can't find a better truck! These Tacomas are simply put amazing, and this community here on TW is an awesome family to be part of! Good luck bud!

... unless your looking for a full size, the titan is extemely reliable! I'd put it up against the tundra all day! But your looking at midsize truck so just get a taco ;)

Thanks for the responses. I'm going to keep looking. The truck's condition was too rough for the price.

For $9900 that looks like a nice truck. You can get a much nicer truck but you will pay more.

There's a big difference between well loved and abused... I'd honestly be concerned if the truck looked spotless for being that old.. that means it either spent it's entire life in the shop... or.. it was wrecked /flooded and fixed...

My 06 was pretty loved when I bought it..so seat wear..some dirt under the gas cap and underneath..tires a bit worn..some small scratches on the doors. but nothing out of the ordinary..
