...That I didn't read some of the negative Tacoma posts before buying my 2017, otherwise I would have probably gone in with all kind of weird thoughts.
I bought my Tacoma SR5 a couple of weeks ago, before subscribing to Tacoma World. Had a 2013 Jeep Wrangler before that I liked, but it was time for something different.
I really like how the Tacoma looks and handles, I like the engine power, I like how quiet it is and how solid it feels...but man, I'm so glad I didn't pay too much attention to all the problems posted here.
So, my recommendation to new members is based on my 40+ years of driving experience and reading posts in many other sites.
-Understand that people with problems tend to voice their opinions easier and more often than people without any problems.
-Be objective about your truck, but understand that it's a machine. "Perfection" does not exist anywhere. What can be an issue for some, is not to others.
-Don't let others control or change your opinions, forge them based on your own experience.
-Many times what others describe as problems, would probably not been noticeable or bother you. Now it does, because you read about it. But does it really bother you?
Use you own experience and common sense while reading some of these comments.
Everybody has a right to express an opinion, just don't let an opinion cloud you thinking.
Man...just enjoy your life and enjoy your Tacoma!
If the negatives are keeping you from enjoying this truck, hey, life is too short for to live unhappy. Sell it and move on!

Well said. Enjoy your new trucks.

Yesterday I met with a local 3rd gen owner who's also on here. Didn't bother asking for his username - why?

Not sure if the forums got to him, but he was a bit too negative for me

Nicely said! I agree completely. I love my truck and I've had no issues other than the trans TSB.

Even if you see the issues I had. All and all they are pretty basic fixes and I am doing all of them except for the transmission programming update. Nothing major more basic annoyances but at least they are easy to resolve. You made a great choice and it's a great truck!

I read here before I bought.... it really almost kept me from buying one. I read long enough and understand cars well enough to figure out most of what goes on here is just bitching about stuff that isn't understood. There are a few with real problems though.

10,000+ miles on my Taco, still plenty happy.

Or are ridgeline owners trolling who have negative comments.

I'd trade my CR-V in for a Ridgeline IF it came with a manual transmission! MY wife would LOVE it.

Congrats on the new truck. I think the 3rd-gen complaints are something you have to sort through and decide if it is legit complaining or not. Some people that just bought a truck that is different than what they expected (like it can't haul a huge boat or isn't as powerful as their previous Dodge Ram etc). That being said, some of the complaints are legit. I don't get how the owners who haven't had any problems go to such great lengths to degrade people with actual problems. Obviously every 3rd-gen off of the lot isn't going to be bad. So people that have a good one, then awesome for you (and I realize there are many). But some people got bad ones. Some problems are legit. It seems to be more than it should. Whether or not it is enough to keep someone from buying a 3rd gen is up to the individual. But I feel bad for some of the people that have had nothing but headaches. Also, people buy a new 16-17 and it didn't break on their drive home, so they make threads about how awesome it is and talk negative to people who are having major issues. Well, did you think the wheels were going to fall off a soon as you left the lot? General statement, not directed at the OP.

Either way, hopefully the new truck treats you right. I love the quicksand color. Also, I really liked the '16 I test drove also. They are cool trucks.

People like to bitch. Basic fact of life. Forums give people a better avenue to sit and whine with similar minded individuals a hell of a lot more than hanging out at the gas station. They feed off of each other much like a nuclear reaction. The just build-up their anger and frustration.
That said the 3rdgensters take it to a level of art.
