Headers on a 1st gen.

Does anyone have headers on their 1st gen.?
what brand is best?
if you installed them yourself how hard were they to put on?

 

trd headers seem to have the best gains and such on the first gens. im planning on going with them later on. and use oem gaskets.

 

Does DT or Toyota make aftermarket headers for a 4 cyl?

the TRD's are expensive, no? i've heard people say good things about gibson headers. i have a gibson muffler and im happy with it

 

I got the TRD put on last year, and freaken love them! Install wasnt too bad. Just takes alot of patience and beer.

It requires some welding, and for the price there awsome! You can find them for around 300, maybe alittle more. But def. the best quality and performance for our trucks!

 

I dont think they do... I think your best bet is to go with LCE.

 

Oh, yeah.... And if I had to do it again(I wouldnt).. I would have a shop do the Install. I had to tow my truck down to my buddies shop to get the headers finished up bc I couldnt.

 

I had a header on my 98 2.7 and noticed a difference in low end power, it was a straight bolt on replacement and easy to do. The hardest part was the studs on the exhaust flange, they were kinda rusty and didnt want to come loose. It also deepened up the exhaust tone big time...

 

what kind of gains are we looking at with a set of trd headers?

 

DT headers are bolt on. they sound sexy...

 

the gians from the 3.4L were verry impressive, I would say a good 15 20hp matched up with a good muffler. But the Low to Mid range on my truck is awsome! It eccelerate's alot quicker and the sound is incredible! def. worth the effort in my book.

 

You installing this yourself? I just heard it was a bitch to do on the 3.4L.

 

Yep! It wasnt too bad... The real bitch is trying to get the old ones out, But If you just hack it up in three spots, it comes out easy. Then there are some hard to reach spots when installing.
But I would never do it again! It requires welding a new flange to the cat, and I dont weld, so I had a freind do it for me.

But I would def. reccomend having a shop do the Install! Never doing that job again!

 

So, is the welding the only thing from you doing them again? I can weld and I've installed several aftermarket exhausts and just seeing if there is something else holding you back. Thanks.

 

yeah i can weld so about how long did it take you to do it?
and did you have to take anything major loose?

 

Has anyone used the Pacesetter headers on a 3.4, if so was the install hard, such as welding or not being able to fit them in?

 

Well the welding wasnt the only part that was a PITA. Its very tight and there are alot of hard to reach places. And the old/stock manifold prety much has to be cut in order to get it out.
But it took me about 12-14hrs off and on work. And nothing else needs to be taken out, eccept the Intake.
The job is def. doable by yourself and if you can weld. You shouldnt have any problems.
