Rust on Frame with A/C drain mod fix

That is a good question. I'm intrigued to know other's opinions.

 

Are you guys using heater hose because of the engine bay heat?

 

^ I just used it because it was cheap and readily available.
Also, when routed straight down, it's a little close to the exhaust shield(~3-4") but I don't see any problem long term.
5/8 heater hose slipped on perfect, bought 2ft, ended up cutting it down to ~18".

 

Only because that was how Corey wrote it up, made it easy to know what to get.

 

I used 1/2" heater hose and joined the two ends with a brass barbed coupling. Worked perfect. Bought 3" of hose and cut close to 1.5" off when finished.

i used a section of power steering line heat shield stuff. id give more info if i didnt just take it off a defective line i had kicking around the shop. made me nervous that it ran so dang close to that cat. but i just used fuel line

 

Quick and easy mod! Went with clear drain hose because we have these pesky mud dabber wasps here that just love clogging up lines like these.

 

I used clear tubing also and have mud dabbers here also . I did not do it at the time for that reason but now I am glad I did.

Longer drain hoses introduces greater risk for clogging which is what problems with wet carpet as the water backs up and goes into the cabin. Clear hose would probably be better as long as you're keeping an eye on it.

 

Thanks. I was thinking of taking it off during the cooler winter months (checking the hose for clogs) and putting it back on when the hot months roll in. It's a quick mod so shouldn't be a problem.

 

Dam now you got me thinking about taking it off. LOL

Yep. Finally did mine today. Hope it stays clear of any build up!

 

Cool mod, will have to do this as soon as it cools, what I have done in all of my cars with AC is turn the AC off about a 1/2 mile from home so the air stream will pull out the condensation before I park it to keep things dry. Never experienced any issues of any kind with the AC and I don't really know helps, but none of my cars had any musty smells and I never had water drops. What's do you think?

 

Actually, the drain drips even without the A/C being on... apparently the "defrost" mode uses the A/c to remove humidity from the cabin... Mine was dripping the other day... Did not use the A/c as it is 2 deg. here...
So it will drip during winter or summer... Do the mod.

2 degrees... burr... here in So Cal that never happens, it might drop down to the mid 30s at night, but for the most part where I live it's desert and dry, so condensation from may never happen.

I did this to my truck last weekend; the truck only had about 450 miles on it when i installed the mod.

I was only able to get 1 zip tie attached to it (located behind the cover in the wheel well) but i put two hose clamps on it to secure it at the top. I cut the heater hose so it sticks out just below the frame. I haven't seen anything come out yet, but its been too cold to run the A/C anyways.

 

That is great feedback. I had no clue it would still drip using defrost in the winter. Thanks for the heads up.
