Using a French Press, and wondering if I should be putting the spent grounds down the sink, or nah.

Great coffee, but not as easy of a disposal as with a drip pot; so I put them down the sink.

Am I going to regret this down the road?

I currently rent my home, but have been considering buying one...might not do it if I have to go back to drip coffee. The french press is sooooo gooood!

    I have a garbage disposal.

    Course Ground.

Depends on your longitude and latitude. Would you say your area has a strong gravitational pull? Elevation? Time of day putting grinds down the sink (some people drink coffee later in the day)? Do you have any dogs? Kids? Wife?

Do you have an onsite septic system? If so I would say to avoid putting anything other than the necessities down the drain.

Better yet, start a garden and throw the grounds into a compost bin.

Denver-5280' above sea level, so a long ways for the grounds to travel. Usually morning, I try to stay away from caffeine after 2:00. The drain does move East though-away from the mountains.

If you're on septic I'd do some further research. On municipal sewer, it seems they already handle it along with other "grit" - see #3 : http://water.usgs.gov/edu/wwvisit.html

I've been in my home twenty years, making at least one pot of coffee per day and sending the grounds through the disposal. No issues so far.

No matter what, never put coffee grounds in any drain lines... 1. If you have any bellies in the pipes it will settle (collect) in them and cause a future back-up (call the plumber time) 2. Filtering or recycling will not remove the caffeine from city water supply. 3. Causes waste water plant to remove more solids from holding pits ( increases your sewer costs). 4. Just a plain bonehead thing to do... My 2 cents. :)

    Absolutely love my coffee press...
My house is on a slab so NO I do not put grounds down the drain.
I think a lot depends on your circumstances.
    Slab, crawl, or basement
    Garbage disposal
If it gets blocked who's on the fix it duty
I dump as much as convenient in the garbage, add water and pitch out the back door, best grass in my yard.
If you go my route make sure you have hold of the glass tube. I broke my first one when the glass flew out with the water.

I work for a local sewer utility, my recommendation is to avoid putting solids down the drain period. Mainly, do not dispose of unwanted foods through the sink and/or garbage disposal. Eventually, it will cause problems.

After replacing some kitchen plumbing, I don't send too much down the drain.
