truck slid off jackstand, am I ok?

my truck kinda slid off the jackstand on the front a arm while i was rotating my tires, it didnt like crash to the ground or anything, but it fell into the earth, the ground was soft and had a few rocks in it, my disc looks fine with no scratching, and i bent the inside disc guard back strait cause it got bent a little bit when it fell, is there anything else that could be wrong that i cant see?

 

You're probably fine, just make sure there are no rocks caught in your brakes. Take this as a lesson learned. Should always have a block, jack stands, or even a tire under there so that IF it slides off or falls you will be protected...

Working under the truck without a jackstand can be fatal.
Even just rotating tires!

 

is it fine that the disc guard got bent? is there an easy way to replace those?

 

You'll probably want to get an alignment...

 

I could be wrong here, but it sounded like the op allready had the truck on a jack stand and it slid off...correct? Maybe the op could elaborate a bit on what caused this to happen so others wont run into the same problem and get injured. Was the truck in park with the emergency brake on? Did you have just one wheel off the ground? Did something bump the truck to cause this, or did it happen when useing the jack? Please explain...

 

The important part is that hopefully no one is injured. I guess reassemble your truck and see if there are any issues with alignment, rubbing, etc.

 

Sounds like it is a case of bad placement with the jackstands,As you jack the other side the weight and load will shift.I made mine back in HS with a nice top that cradles the frame rail.Some of the jackstands I see for sale have these silly little tops that look useless.Good to hear no one was hurt!

it may be because the jackstand was on the A arm ??
not a good place to support the truck.

 

Glad to hear you were not hurt. The jackstands are to be used on a part of the suspension / frame that does not flex / hinge that way there is lots of support and less chance of a "slide". If it slipped off and fell on soft earth I suspect that your only issue will be stones or gravel. I can't see why an alignment would be necessary if it did fall on the soft earth you described. My $.02.

 

Good to hear you were not under it when it fell. I always lay my wheels under the truck when I use jack stands.

 

Last year, with my old car (Scion tC), a 5.2 earthquake occurred while I was underneath changing the oil. I had it on a jack with one jackstand propped up next to it as a backup. The rear wheels were blocked. While I was still under it, the car somehow slid off the jack but caught the jackstand.

 

Damn! That's crazy.

 

These trucks are tough as hell. Last weekend I took mine for a 'little' 40mph jump and landed on the skid... seriously thought we totalled the truck out. So minus a stock skid plate crushed I really can't find crap... and I've looked up and down lol.

Crazy man, I always have backup stuff under a car for it to slide onto. I thought maybe I was just being paranoid but i'm glad to see it saved someone!

I have my 280z up on 6ton jacks right now with backups and blocks under for slip protection... even them I'm still cautious as hell around it. I'd like more but being a unibody there really isn't much more I can do...

Well, these trucks have pretty high clearance. That's a pretty large fall... there's always a chance you could tweak stuff, including the frame. Once you get it back up and running you'll know if it's pulling though.

 

Glad you're ok - that must have scared the @#$% out of you. I'm always nervous when under any vehicle because you just never know. Always make sure the stands are on secure solid ground and a back up in place just in case.

 

Yep, not a problem. Just bend the guard back as best you can.

 

As for the alignment, you shouldnt have anything to worry about. I've seen the front end of an F-250 powerstroke come crashing to the ground before with no ill effects. Other than the guy under it..

If something does happen to be off, it will be obvious when you drive the truck. If this if the case, then take care of the issue as needed.
