My service adviser told me they were instructed by Toyota to do this for diagnosing my low speed shudder/vibration

I still think it's the rear driveshaft creating its own wind howl, even if it's on a lift it could create the whistle by its own created vortex. As in the driveshaft cutting through the air at a certain rotational speed is causing the whistle. Was the howl more consistent on the lift? At highway speeds it has the tendency to cut in and out.

I don't think that's it. If it was only the driveshaft's rotational speed and/or the vehicle's speed on the road then feathering the throttle would make no difference. Either way, the driveshaft is moving down the road and rotating at the same speed. In my case, the sound depends entirely on the load put on the drivetrain. Minor throttle fluctuations will make it come and go.

That's where I'm at..sold my 2006 Civic Si and jumped into a 2017 Tacoma. Hoping it lasts a VERY long time...least 10 years!

With that said...I bought my Civic in 2006 brand new and had a few recalls right away...3rd gear ring set being one of the largest.

Mine started with a screaming and howling sound every time I accelerated. I took it to the dealership today, pulled into the service department and smoke was pouring from my backend. Apparently the rear drive shaft leaked all lubricant and was rubbing metal on metal against the axle?? How in the world does this happen on a brand new truck. 14,500 miles.

Mines around that many miles too. Yikes.

My noise appears to be louder. Even with the sound deadening I put in the entire cab

I go in for the start of my fight tomorrow, TSB update for delayed R to D, broken interior piece and going to get the tech to take a drive to address my biggest concern for the diff howl. Wish me luck.

Good luck. They didn't want to do the TSB for me until they got the diff. straightened out, so I had to wait a while to get the TSB done.

That's fine with me, as its only when I go from R to D when cold out. I want to start the rear diff process though.

Only drove 2.5 miles home. Never got to highway speeds. I'll be driving tomorrow to work and it always does it down two freeway hills, so I'll see
Replaced carrier, gasket, and diff fluid. Test driven by mechanic and no noises.

Same as me. I got about 10 minutes of silence.
