Comparing mid sized trucks based on drag race times to Tacoma owners.... Sort of like bragging on your girlfriends superior SAT scores to your friend sitting there with his hot girlfriend. He just doesn't care.

Agreed. What microphallic condition makes someone buy a truck for drag strip prowess?

My funcar is nothing special and smacks down any of these trucks.

Me to. If I wanted to race I would have brought a Vette. I brought my truck to haul stuff and off roading.

I like TFL reviews. "Once the vtec kicked in". Haha!

    Workin' on it....
These guys did another piece where they compared the offroad performance with the Ridgeline and the Taco killed it so I don't think they have really any bias, they just tell it like it is. I love my truck but I can still admit to myself and others that it does have shortcomings -- and that's ok, no vehicle is perfect.

    Like the guy above said:
"Sort of like bragging on your girlfriends superior SAT scores to your friend sitting there with his hot girlfriend. He just doesn't care."

The Taco is a much better looking truck and personally when I was buying, the Frontier I test drove felt heaps more responsive with the throttle than my 2nd gen but I LOVED driving the taco and that's all that matters.

i bought a truck to off-road, not drag race other trucks. This is such a dumb test. Why dont they take each of those off-roading.

The Nissan has substantially more torque than the Tacoma has. Drag racing is dumb with these trucks but the TFL guys gotta make filler videos between press events and whatnot. I thought the Tacoma Ike video was pretty good. It revved hard going up the gauntlet but even huge V8's rev high on that section.

I love the speed and power of my truck! I get up to speed on an on ramp with ease. I can pass quickly on a 2 lane road. I does everything I ask without a problem. My last Toyota was a 1986 4Runner, now that was a dog. If the wind was blowing I couldn't go above 60!

Ive test driven the ridger twice and it felt like a rocket compared to my offroad. I believe the taco is standard fast but the ridgeline is extremely fast for a pickup. Im telling you the ridgeline can give sedans a run for their money.

You would be quite surprised. It also can move towing 4800 lbs. Its just a fast truck

Remember this is 6000 ft above sea level - gonna lose at least 1 second or more compared to magazine times. Also, they noted that the Frontier was almost out of gas. ie. less weight. Its got lots of Torque down low. The Ridgeline AWD is gonna help it put power down. Seems the Taco may limit power a bit for traction. I wonder if times would improve it they played with traction control settings. Wish they talked more about the settings. Coming from a 2nd gen, the 3rd gen is a little softer at the start but pulls harder at higher RPM.

Manual would've raped that test, bypassing the low load cycle is the biggest reason the manual is way faster. Keeping the rpms up and launching hard skips Atkinson, and the numb throttle response...then gearing advantage.

I learned 2 things from that video...

    1. The Honda is the fastest by a decent margin

    2. The Honda is the ugliest by a BIG margin

Ungainly proportions, thy name is Ridgeline.

Would love to see a Manual perform in a ANY of these side by side comparisons. My manual has more than enough getup and go for me when I put her to the floor. And I bought my truck mainly because of it's offroad abilities and performance. In which It Blows the doors off these other pretend wannabe 4x4's.

Right. That should have off-road comparisons I think.

I really like TFL Truck. They seem to really like the Tacoma, plus I enjoy watching the videos on all the other trucks that are out there.

The engine is hardly weak, but my opinion is biased by having the six speed manual transmission.

The auto trans with it's lower gear ratios and that 3.90 axle ratio hinders the 3.5 engine as post after post in this forum point out.

This thread is so stupid. It's a truck. It's not meant to be taken around the track or to the drag strip. I'm coming from a 12 second mercedes sedan and I have zero complaints about the power. If you wanted something that can do 0-60 in 4 seconds and the 1/4 in 12 seconds, shoulda bought a sports car, not a damn truck. Is anyone out here really drag racing their tacoma?
