I miss Austin when all the Portland rejects hadn't turned up yet.

 

I miss Austin from when Bergstrom was an Air Force Base and you could get across town in less than half an hour.

Yep. Can't even get north of downtown in 30 minutes.

When surface streets are faster than the highway, you got a problem.

 

The F-4 that was at Bergstrom is now at the Lago Vista Airport. My Grandads' RF-101 is in Alabama unfortunately, but at least it still has Tiger Stripes.

 

The 67th Tactical Reconnaissance Wing has evolved into the 67th Network Warfare Wing down in San Antonio. I retired from it in 2011. They stuck with all the same heraldry, but it picked up new meaning. "Lux ex tenebris" is Latin for "light from darkness," and initially referred to the mission of the RF-4C Photo Phantoms. It now refers to the cyber warfare missions that the 67th's units perform, and is even more fitting now than before.

There is a Bergstrom RF-4C sitting next to the dining facility on Security Hill, just down the road from the 67th HQ. It is awesomeness.

Can't get a loop. Barton Creek watershed and Lake Travis prevent a full loop. 360 would have to be turned into a legitimate highway (get rid of those freaking traffic lights) to even begin to get something close to that.

 

And I wont ever let a bridge over Travis for as long as I live.

I remember that - Memorial Park was at the intersection right before base housing. I see the 12th AF HQ building behind it.

Place was a dump, full of mice and bats. No way would I ever stay in that Hilton.

I saw a white second gen this morning on 35, glass fenders and bedsides with a roof top tent. Looked great.

I know there are some on the 2nd gen marketplace but I prefer local pick up.

I think its time to do another retro project.
