Well, that's impressive then. That's a relatively small axle for those bigger trucks. But heck, if it works it works.

Still not worth it IMO. No D44 second gen could last a day with us and survive, it just won't happen...Eric's D44 had to go from under his first gen bc it wouldn't hold...not a chance under an even heavier truck. Simple strength to weight ratio. It's like arguing with the people who like to use aluminum because its "strong enough"...it'll never be steel. For some things its good enough but it will never be STEEL or as strong as it. A D44 may work for some, but a D60 will work for everyone.

Better to ask what I have not done.
To each their own but i still have my ride hight where yours bump stops out. I dont need to be 7 inches of lift and 40s to do any of the trails in colorado. Besides when your on 40s and tons you can do what ever you want. But where is the fun in that?

Whats your frame height? Mines 25", on 40's, with 4" uptravel. You would have to tub even with 35's to get the uptravel to back up your statement, I still see stock flares...

Lets see pictures. I will eat crow if its true, but am highly skeptical. I tried to find pics showing any of this in your build and there's nothing to back this up.

In my build, along with every piece of info needed to replicate. I have nothing to "back up" lol. I just think you measure differently than the rest of us :D

And tons and 40's are still fun, it just sucks driving soooooo far to find a challenge when you live in flatland like I do. :(

You're quick lol Didnt even pick up the edit about why wontons and 40s suck :D

I like technical build threads personally. Theres sooo many places to BS on TW. I can't search for shit or weed through the BS to find the info, not enough time. Many use the BS to pass the day, I'm too busy. Sucks getting old. :(

This is more TW than I usually do in a week all in one morning lol

I'm glad your truck is done and works for you. It wouldn't work for me or many others here, but it doesn't have too

23" from ground to frame. As you can see he had to raise he motor some and cut through the hood. I'll never do an SAS on mine but still fucking cool to see what they look like when it's done.

Where's the fun? Hold on to that question until you start doing more challenging and technical trails :D

But the fun is found on the fact that wheeling becomes way less stressful when you have HD axles and more clearance. Less stressful = more fun. Worrying all the time that something might brake or that this or that rock will destroy something underneath removes the fun in wheeling.

It's like the auto vs manual tranny argument. 5spd guys argue that the added technical challenge of dealing with a clutch is awesome...until the day they wheel with an auto and say..."crap, i didn't know what I was missing".!

Same thing with wide big axles and big tires.

What about rocky trails where you are constantly off camber :D

My truck has settled to 22.25" frame height on leafs and 37s and i want to raise it. The thing is low riders are cool, i wanted one and built one, however im right back where i was pre sas (with less money) where im beaching the truck on stuff. So i either need to raise it or shorten it, im going to raise it a bit i think this winter.

I have a friend with a hp d44 retubed by currie and with rcvs under his grandcherokee on 37s and so far he has broken 2 ring gears and 2 sets of rcvs wheeling in not that hard of stuff and hes a great driver. I would run a toyota axle over a d44 in these trucks, it seems like people with d44s either have great luck, or shit luck.

I thought that was the point. Build it, wheel it, break it, fix it. Wash rinse repeat. Fun not stressful.

that's why shes long and wide and has suck down winch for the front and rear.. i can turn it into a three wheeling skate board if i so choose.

did my testing and with out using a suck down winch the truck stable on 50 degree angles. it may have handled more but i pussed out.
