Yes at least here in colorado. And because 90% of the people i talk to with ar15s didnt know that you can change uppers so we swap lowers so people can try my trigger and thats how i convince people a 180$ trigger is worth every penny.

Not really. No where near a modern loaded 45-70. I shoot a 45 caliber wildcat that operates at 20k PSI higher and still lacks the punch of a modern 45-70, especially with the heavy bullets.

That Hornady load is very low pressure and slow, designed to be safe if someone were to fire it from a trapdoor rifle. Loaded for a modern 45-70 the 325 FTX is pushed about 2350 fps, almost 500 fps faster than the SOCOM.

I'm not saying the SOCOM isn't a good round, just correcting the exaggeration that usually accompanies the discussion of it.

I understand that. Im not trying to say your wrong. Thats why i said basicaly instead of balisticaly. :D #blackriflesmatter i love my marlin 45-70 but i also like modularity and 458 socom provides that for me.

There's just something about shooting a 300gr bullet out of a rifle designed for a 55gr bullet that makes me smile.

Mine uses a completely different design bolt and barrel extension to handle the larger case and high pressures. 5.56 bolt on the left.

If your worried get the full upper. If building just get the bolt for one. No need to get the whole bcg

You bastard :). That's a very expensive picture.

I've been messing around with a 45 caliber AR 10 for a while, and can't solve the feeding issues with 45ACP. The OAL is just too short.

Good news proves my alternate solution was the right one....

That's an AR15 bolt, an 800 Series by ARP with the corresponding barrel extension, on a 45 VRAP barrel. The 45 VRAP is a similar chamber to the 45 Raptor (same brass) but is built on an AR15 rather than an AR10. A much better solution than the AR10.

Very nice. Looks like those bolts are hard to come by now.

When I did the design for the gun, getting a custom bolt/bbl extension wasn't an option, so AR10 it was.
