It isn't slipping. It is the way the transmission is programmed. I believe there is a TSB out there for it.

When you say hesitating.... is there a loss of power, or is it just still climbing hte RPM band higher than you'd like? A hard shift is actually a good thing (typically). It just means it's fully engaging quickly and with no slip. These transmissions learn your driving style... if you've been ragg'n on it (aka full throttle acceleration a lot) it'll shift hard and late.

Try taking your battery off for 20min to reset the learned settings, then 'reteach' it (just drive it the way you want to).

    Also, the TSB is 09-10.

Don't worry, take it to the dealership of your choice. Whatever repairs are necessary should be 100% covered by the powertrain Warranty 60 months / 60,000 miles.

No. The TSB is only applicable to 2009 and 2010 models. The OP has a 2008 taco.

The TSB is a technical service bulletin which is an advisory action that dealers can use to fix specific issues that customers complain about. They are NOT the same as a recall.

TSB is a technical service bulliten. If your vehicle shows the known symptoms, corporate has the "fix" for it the dealers can follow. However, like I said before the transmission reprogramming is only listed for the 09-10. You can still have them check it out though, but I'm willing to bet it's just the learned behavior.

I had slipping issues at 59,600 miles on my truck. I took it to the dealership and they said it had complete failure. They replaced it (barely) under warranty with a brand new transmission. 3k miles later I am having the same issues. I pulled a guy out of the mud this morning at 4am. Needless to say I had to stomp on it "full throttle" to get the guy out. I HOPE it's just in need of a reset to relearn my driving. It's in the process of sitting with the battery disconnected as I write this. I don't see how a transmission with only 3k miles on it could already be failing... does anyone else think it could be a relapse?

I would have thought you would have noticed it prior to 53,xxx in miles though, weird.

Yeah, I, too thought that. It originated around 59,500. I drove it for about a tank of fuel. It was just to where it would slip or stick in neutral at about 3/4 gear.. then it got to other gears and finally it was just slipping constantly and unpredictably.

Now it is a consistent stick between 4th and 5th gear. It will redline for about 2 seconds and then drop into 5th really hard. It's every time, too.

From what I've heard, there is a 12 month warranty on the replacement transmissions they install. So hopefully they will replace it again. I've seen multiple instances of the exact same symptoms on here. One guy replaced his at 60k, then again at like 70k, then once more at 75k. All under warranty..

glad mine is a lease and I will have it most likely turned back in by that mileage count. However if it stays sound I may renegociate my lease and drive it a little longer.
