It's how you are driving it. I regularly get around 20mpg.

It's like Health insurance it settles once a year. Except this one isn't in November it's on the 31st of February.

JK it usually settles within 1000 to 5000 miles just depending on you driving consistency. If your erratic and are always changing the speeds you drive at like one day :burnrubber: and the next:turtleride: then you can expect it to take longer for the computer to figure out what is wrong with you lol.:tinfoilhat:

I think airing up the tires from the dealer 26 PSI to a good compromise (fuel economy, ride, wear) pressure of 35 PSI has more effect on MPG than the computer learning your driving habits.

I know it's my driving, but the shifting points plus TPS setting is so F'd up just to drive in residential and business districts you end up flooring it just to get the truck to move to keep up with traffic. I'll admit I live in a canyon up in the hills, but on highway I know it will get 20+.

Hit the ECT and leave it on till you get the speed you desire the shut it off. I've left mine on once for an 80mile one way trip and still got 18.6MPG

Every time I fill up the computer resets to tank range as 385. No matter how I drive the numbers drop rapidly when the range is below 100 miles to go. Always get 260-285 to about 16-17 gallon fill up. Haven't gone on a road trip yet, my commute in the hills probably avg 25 mph. Tires are down to 31, going to up it to 37.I came from 300+ hp Infinities so there's a period of adjustment and expectation when trying to make this thing go on low end, runs good on top end though.

I do that now, I found commuting at 65mph speeds on flat ground it does better in 4th gear, in 5th at 70+ ish keeping rpm's in the 2200 range.

Yeah mine is good anywhere under 78MPH between 78mph and 85mph it struggles to find the right gear. So I just drop in in 5th and keep chugging along

I have 15,000 miles on my Tacoma, if anything the gas mileage has got a tad bit worse over time. However it has really been minimal change. No mods except Plasticolor mud flaps on my truck since I took delivery. I've tried High Octane (91) just for shits'n'giggles. No discernible difference. I'm at 18.9 per fuelly.

I asked my mechanic if there would be any issue breaking in a car in the winter since I'll be getting mine in the winter.

All he said is its fine. Most vehicles now barely even have a break in period.

I had a 99 land cruiser for about 10 years and the mileage continued to improve the longer I had it.

People are so paranoid about this stuff. Too funny that folks even have to ask these questions.

The people who complain about folks reporting negative issues and problems "it's not like it's a ferrari" they'll say it's just a pick up".... in the same breath they turn around and are changing the oil at 1200 miles and concerned about break in periods.:rofl:

    lol
I'm just not aware since the Taco will be my first new vehicle. Every car I've owned was always preowned first.
Never had to actually deal with a break in period and the winters here are harsh. I mean there are days where I can't even start my car its too cold. But meh

Not sure if you're trying to say something...never once said I'd change the oil every 1200miles.
I'm used to doing my oil every 8000km so would likely continue that but got a test kit from blackstone or whatever that company is that was posted on here. Actually doing it for my jetta next oil change and will do it again for the taco.

Locally I usually drive in 3rd in sport mode with ETC on.

Update: Went for a 200+ mile ride to Big Sur the other day up and down the coast. After I got home, the dash computer said I got 25.2 MPG. That was driving in D with ETC on for the mountainous regions.
