What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

I'm seeing em online for $81.42 and $89.52 for the L&R lowers... not including shipping

 

For those of you that have had your rear axle seal go bad. Did you always see a little drip of fluid on the drum (i.e. looking at the back of the wheel)? I did up until I made it home Sunday. Checked the fluid and added a little but haven't added any since. (Not that I'm going to not get it fixed, parts have been ordered, its more of being able to find somebody to press it in possibly.) Just curious

I replace mine every 100,000 miles like clock work come hell or high water,
150.00 worth of parts is nothing

 

I didnt have anything drip out of the drum...if that what you were saying. But the everything inside the drum was covered in oil

 

Oh ok gotcha, just thought it was odd that it was dripping and then just stopped. Hopefully parts will be here prior to Friday

 

Has anyone ever put rtv where the axle shaft bolts to the housing? Mine had that so idk if it's a bandaid or if it actually stops the fluid

 

If oil has gotten to there your seal has already failed as oil has gone through it and the bearing.

 

I've never seen any there and didn't see any when I pulled the drum off... So I should be good to go?

 

I did because i didnt have an o ring big enough to replace them at the time.

I assume your talking about here. As you can see mine was pretty crusty.

 

All 4 bolts are the same length. However, the thickness of the spindle where the bj mounts varies in thickness. The wheel side of the spindle is much thicker and the bolts don't poke thru like the inner pair do.

The two exposed bolts in the pic are the stock length.

finally installed my bpv bracket (after having it for 4 months)
tinted my windows limo (gunna go back to get my windshield tinted)
took out my 4 8's and made a custom box for 2 10's
remounted my light bar higher

No RTV needed because it is supposed to have this o-ring:

 

They just gave me a different number for the bolts, 90119-10933, did the ones you listed work for you?

 

Quick question for you 4wd guys. Im starting to get parts together to do my 4wd conversion and i dont know what cv axles to get-ADD or not? and is buying refurbished axles a good idea?

Update: Purchased 2 new DTA CV axles with auto lock hubs. Pretty sure these will work lol says its compatible $117
