Post up pics of the 15...........but even without them I'd make that trade.......well, mostly I would have looked around for the 15 to begin with and skipped the 17 part altogether.

I'd trade for the '15 because it would be what I want. What you may or may not want is a completely different story. The fact you bought a 4x2 to begin with indicates you didn't think 4wd was a necessity. I bought mine because I think it'll be a durable vehicle, not for what it'll be worth in 10 years.

Wow, Mod. You officially suck. Thx for moving this to the incredibly negative 3rd gen forum. I'd posted it on the 2nd for a reason. It's predictable that the hater/3rd gen crowd would show up here and spit venom and they did. This post has now become futile.

And for what it's worth I clearly stated that I was asking folks to look at it from a financial standpoint. As an "investment". Not that I'd ever buy a truck to make money - but I am more interested in the model that will hold its value the best.

And of course the boring "4wd or nothing" crowd shows. Well, I don't need 4wd. If/when I get the '15 pro I'd never use the 4wd. I'd just sell the truck in 5-7 years to someone who would (for maybe more money than the '17).

Thx everyone for missing the point, being predictable and just generally being another miserable Internet forum. Kudos.

Being "unbiased" is impossible here. I wasn't looking for that. I was looking for opinions on the second gen holding its value etc from the crowd that has them. Of course I know that's biased, but I also knew if I posted that here (3rd gen forum) exactly what happened would happen. Look at the differences in tone between when this post was on 2nd vs 3rd. Helpful vs unhelpful. You of all people should know this.

If you don't need 4x4 and you've had some minor issues then I'd keep the 17. You have the warranty and let's say you get the shitty differential howl. Have toyota replace it, under warranty, and then call corp to get that 100k warranty. I have a little hope toyota will sort this platform out. Coming here daily won't make it seem like that but I know there's hope

Based on Toyota's reputation I don't think there is any real reason, at this point, to think that the 3rd gen won't hold it's value as well as the previous gens. The diff howl seems to be the biggest issue that doesn't have a fix yet, and even that seems to be mainly just an annoyance at this point - which Toyota is working on.

Every new model will have growing pains, but my experience with the 3rd gen so far is that Toyota has been willing to stand behind it. Personally, I wouldn't make the trade, but it ultimately comes down to what you'll be more satisfied with.

Get both. Doesn't your wife drive? Maybe you could take the good things from each one and mash them together into the ultimate gen 2.75 Tacoma.

It's never a good investment to trade a car you just bought, take a huge loss, and buy an older one because it has perceived better resale. That sounds like something a used car salesman would tell you. If you hate the 17, then get rid of it. The 17 will hold it's value just as well as a 15, unless something unusual happens like the VW scandal. I work for a leasing company, and we get used lease returns in all the time. I normally buy used, but when I saw that a new 17 was only a couple thousand more than a used 15, there was no decision to be made. Forums are notorious for having a large portion of people that have had problems vs. people that didn't have problems. It's like online surveys. Happy people don't fill out surveys nearly as much as the people that had a problem. You can Google Tacoma exploding on startup, and you'll probably find someone complaining that their truck blew up. Does that mean Tacoma's have a problem, no. I deal with this all the time. A client will have one issue with a car and google the problem, and they are led to believe that there is this huge problem with their car and everyone is having the same problem, because there 15 online posts about the issue. Nevermind that that there are a million of those cars on the road, that don't have online complaints posted. I've got several clients driving 3rd gen Tacoma's and not one has told me they don't love their truck.

You've been here all of 15 days. I'm glad you got this all figured out...even if it required the opinions of two sub-forums. Did you expect it to be helpful to post in a section of the vehicle you will be trading into? I would think that would go without saying as this is ultimately the answer you wanted to hear. Likewise with the group that you would be trading out of. I would expect animosity there also. Take stock in what was said; from both sides. Most of the people saying "trade it" stated so with the idea of it being a 2wd to 4wd trade.

This has nothing to do with an investment. You're looking for piece of mind. Vehicles are not investments. And to suggest that going backwards in years is a sound investment is even more ludicrous.

You've gone from loving the truck to trading it in 4 days. 4 DAYS!!! You've made the assumption that everyone hates their 3rd gen and you've adopted the same mindset. Do not push your buyers remorse here just because you read about few people's trucks having issues.

I'm just looking at options. And staying positive. Never once have I gotten negative about my truck. Was just a big purchase for my little fam and got an offer from a guy that I found interesting. And thought the 2nd gen forum might weigh in.

Way to go through my posts and pluck one little piece out to be manipulative and win some argument. Completely out of context. Good game.

And I don't need peace of mind from you, but thanks for the "piece" of your mind. Tho I'm not sure ya have any to spare.

Personally wouldn't trade my brand new vehicle for a used one. I have no doubt the 3rd gens will hold their value as well as the previous 2 gens. Its a Tacoma, you'll be fine either way!

21 irrelevant posts have been removed from the this thread. You've got the 2nd gen folks saying trade it and the 3rd gen folks with actually sound advice.

There's no argument here. I'm not trying to manipulate anything. Although I do appreciate the grammar check, there is no need to insult. You're upset that I moved your thread for a few hours. I understand that and I apologize. My intention was to only see what the 3rd gen guys had to say. It's your truck and by all means trade it, but do it for the right reason(s)...

Man, there you go again with your cutting and pasting. Put that hilarious quote into context... it was complete sarcasm in a thread where that was relevant. I was "trying" to be funny because there were so many little - new - things popping up that folks (I'll include myself in this) were worried about. Tone is very hard to convey via forum, apparently. But I think you're smart enough to see that was sarcasm... and anyone who sees it here - out of context from the thread - won't. So, again, kudos.

Anyway, forget it. Yuck. I need to take another shower. I don't even know what we're talking about anymore.

Trading in one truck for another...........and probably a forum to go with it.

I traded in a truck for the one I have now. AC for RC, neither 4wd, neither 4.0, both 2nd gens. Nobody gave a fuck. I love it!

What financial standpoint did you provide? You still havent said shit about how much, if anything it will cost you to trade? By not providing any details you turned this thread into a 2nd gen vs 3rd gen troll fest.

2nd gen and3rd gen, they will depreciate the same. If someone tells you otherwise they are a clown.

Hmmm, my original answer was do the trade because I just like the TRD PROs. :)
Your new truck will be good and resale will good since you don't care about 4WD that much, save your $$ and take a great road trip!
The only people that will benefit from your trade is the dealer. They are always willing to take your money.
