To each their own.. I've had them in the past and the only difference I noticed was the noise.

Another common misconception about air intakes is this, you'll often hear people state they can definitely feel a horsepower gain, increased pep in their cars step, and that they also benefited from increased MPG!

Nah man, whenever you have increased hp, that requires the fuel to do so. Increased power results in increased fuel consumption.

But yes I agree, to each their own.

I'm not disagreeing with you and I'm not saying a K&N Intake can do this... BUT... Wouldn't cooler and denser air thus more oxygen rich air provide a benefit for combustion? That wouldn't require more fuel yet provide improved performance.
Thinking out loud here. I'm curious.

Waste of money. And potentially damaging to engine. Many people over oil them after cleaning which does wonderful things to a MAF sensor.
Not to mention that they don't filter that well.

God not these threads again. If you buy a k&n intake, do an independent dyno and gain a peak 18hp on an otherwise completely stock tacoma i'll eat a sock.

There's a better chance that someone could actually swallow a sock, than there is a K&N filter making 18HP.

A new bolt here, a new bolt there, a new bolt everywhere.
What you need is not an intake but a ring and pinion gear set. You can add all the power adders you want but until your gear ration is corrected for the extra size on your tires your going to feel like your driving a sherman tank.

Yeah when I had a drop in K&N air filter on my last Tacoma, the oil on the filter killed my MAF sensor. Not worth the trouble, OEM or Wix (my personal choice) are more than adequate for our trucks

Settled. The jury finds the defendant K&N of misleading consumers with bogus gains of 18HP based on an open box and conical shaped air filter.

Now, if K&N offered a hand held tuner where you could upload a canned tune to actually increase performance, and then mate that with an aftermarket intake, that would be legit.

Let's take 18HP gain, but do you ever run your truck or any car at that RPM?
