I attribute my success due to immediately taking it on a 600 mile road trip days after purchase. Then changing engine oil when I got home. And changing gear oil around 3500.

Ours aren't proven, both are AISIN if I believe, but the 2nd gens are proven, guys going 200k+ in them no issues besides changes to fluid.

Non off-road, and all other automatic trucks use an 8" diff. Same as the 2nd gen. Lol

LOL, don't know that I would call it a time bomb just yet. I think we've only seen a few that have actually failed. No leaking seals on mine, or grinding, just a super annoying howl.

im getting the howl, i could honestly give 2 damns about it but some rare instances of leaks and grinds kinda bothers me, this 3rd gen is my first ever tacoma, and truck as well, and personally i love this truck, so weird squeaks or any control arm howls either, 5k miles in about a month and a half, and i havent really noticed anything expect the howl, and it doesnt bother me with no music either.... kinda helps to know where my throttle is at when im being a jew about my gas mileage too.... i know im weird

Make sure its not the control arms your hearing, this will be the first thing they check if you do bring it in for the howl, so you'll want to plug those perform that TSB and go from there. They are similar but different sounds.

the noise is dictated by amount of throttle i give, control arms wouldnt react to any throttle input, atleast id think so. ill plug those holes regardless, make me feel like i just did some kind of upgrade for no money hahaha

Oh I agree, I'm just saying that's what the service techs will do first so might as well rule that out for them.

I've seen your truck I think before, Barcelona Red DCSB? I used to race 30+C and 25+ C (got into it late only been riding for last 4 years or so), now I'm just a weekend warrior, been mostly riding FOD lately as much as I don't want too because I cant stand how poorly managed that track is (know what they did to Brian C and some other employees there along with a bunch of other crap they pull). How bout you? We will be there sat if your around, I'll be on my 125, black taco with license plate "braaap".

nah mines inferno orange, never been to FOD with the taco yet, im in the 250 and open C classes along with collegeboy, i broke all 3 of my bikes so im sidelined for now haha, FOD is on and off with the track, and the politics on the management are worse then toyota resolving the diff nonsense, but its fun sometimes when its not a dustbowl, i live 5 mins from etown so thats usually my track of choice

There's a guy with a Barcelona sport at the race track on weds all the time parks in back corner. That sucks. I sold my 16 yz250f and just on my 125 right now. Between work and grad school might be selling it too. I'll take either over open c practice on the practice track with the Mexican mafia squids trying to take you out.
