I agree, that makes sense. However, wouldn't there be a risk (limit straps aside) of the coil coming off-seat at full droop?

I....I....ok. I got this. Breath in.

:gossip: that's what the preload collar is for (the little spinny thingy at the top of the shock body where the body is threaded). Spin that till it snugs to the coil and u have zero preload. Spin more to add additional preload.

Genuine question: Have you thought this whole long travel thing through?

    You can do it.:curls:

Lol, I'm on 5100s atm, not used to having this kind of adjust-ability. I see what you mean, thanks. I'm hoping I won't need to add much preload after, but this is all going to be a learning experience.

If you get 16" coils with no front bumper or winch typically there isn't a need for preload. Just snug the "spiny thingy" down tight. ;)

I'm about to change mine. They're still tight but are getting really loud even with tri-flo. Been about 1.5 to 2 years.

I plan on an aluminum pelfreybilt plate with winch, my only concern would be be having to add more preload on top of added weight for the lift I want to achieve; that being round 3". In theory, having longer A-arms will increase lift though too.

If you're serious, you have a lot to learn. Nobody was born with suspension knowledge, so no hard feelings. But I would do A LOT more research and think about why you actually want an LT setup before you buy any more parts.

LT does not provide any lift, that is entirely dependant on your coilover setup.

Already read it. And I've googled to find which springs to run with my specific coilovers will little luck, only came here to ask about a spring. Luckily camburg has a nice PDF that they with willingly share, lest my question be posted on TacomaWorld-Oh the horror!

And for the rest of you, the angle of the upper and lower control arms will place the wheel lower than with stock length upper and lower control arms depending on their angle as set by the coilovers, not too hard to understand, I should have said clearance. I'm a 2wd trying to get the most out of the truck, I got these coilovers for sub-$500 rather than spending 2k on kings or ADS, and Icon is local to me. I've read this thread and some of the LT threads in their entirety. If my questions and curiosity bother your conscience all that much, I'll be on my way.

Bu-bye. I'll post here when the IFS is done.

Don't run away. I am recent to this thread too and still endure some shit beatings because of questions I ask or comments I make. :)

But in all seriousness a couple of things, a comment mentioned earlier about the top plates. Do you have them to go on the ICON'S? If not you will need to source them before you can install those. Now if you are planning on a plate bumper and winch and want to keep the preload down you need to run a 700lb coil. From what I have seen on TW those running a 700lb 16" coil from KING typically have to set in about a 1/2" to 3/4" of preload (threads exposed) to maintain about a 3" lift. That amount of preload does not affect the ride. I am running a 14" 700lb Eibach spring on my ICON'S and run about 1.25" preload for 3"s. The ride is fine for me. But it's ICON. It rides differently then others.

LT or stock length your lift is entirely controlled by the coilover or body lift. In theory yes you could get over 3"s of lift with LT but your preload would be so much that the ride would suffer.

Just be careful where you get your info from - not sure where you read that LCA's provide lift.

Your "theory" of adding lift just by having longer A arms would be true only if you assumed you had the same upper and lower coilover mounting points, and still using the same coilover as stock length arms. Neither of those are true. With LT arms, the lower coilover mount is pushed out farther towards the spindle and you have a completely different coilover. Ride height is based off the spring rate/preload combination and the weight of your truck.

    Yes
Gramps, the spring rate equation changes with a long travel set up because the leverage ratio changes ( decreases ) A 700lb spring would be really stiff with with LT.
