I think a lot of it is 2nd gen owners not ready to buy a new truck yet. I bet a lot of them if their 2nd gen went belly up would be at the dealership buying a 3rd gen.

I will say my 3rd gen trumps all my 2nd gens in every department besides initial build quality (have never had this many issues in so few miles on my tacomas, yes most are minor, but still) and the rear diff howl that more than a "few" of us have as some see so adamant claiming, see diff howl thread, this is my chief complaint as it is concerning long term for this truck and an important component.

That is where GM excels. Initial quality.....then it drops off.

I had no problems with initial build quality on my truck. It's been said before, the folks with issues, their voices are a lot louder than the folks without issues.

If EVERYONE had issues, Toyota wouldn't be making any money and they would get out of the mid-size truck business. That obviously hasn't happened. I think there's even an argument FOR Toyota making quality trucks or we wouldn't be here.

Well this morning wasn't minor. A brand new still with temp tags 17 Tacoma swerved out of the freeway and thankfully pulled over to the shoulder. I stopped and asked if the driver was ok and if he needed help. He said the truck lost power, PS and brakes. Started the truck and stumbled and stalled. I gave him the number to Toyota Roadside assistance to call. meh.

Well they have sold thousands and that one stalled maybe a few more have to. That can happen to any vehicle at any given time including your Tundra which is a good vehicle also. You are mainly on a forum going to hear about the bad. Yes there is bad out there but there is a lot more good. Its your call what you do there is no skin off my back if you keep your Tundra or trade into a Tacoma. It just bugs me that people listen more to people with complaints than people who say they like their vehicle.

Its the second one here in 2 months. 1st one on i17 almost caused a collision. My guess CPS failed and skidded off the side of the road. Cant say the 1st and 2nd gen had failures of such proportions. Best of luck to you.

How does a failed cps cause a vehicle to skid off the road ? The engine stops, period. Talking about stirring the pot. I have had cps's fail in two other manufacturers cars over the years. No big sweat if you can drive. No worse than running out of gas. Also I didnt know Toyota made cps's. Did they make Takata air bags too which are under recall big time ??? Get the point ? I have a Tundra Pro also and wonder why you keep ranting in here with garbage like this. What's the point ?

Had a 2007 third year production dcsb prerunner 2nd gen for 9 years before purchasing my 3rd gen.

My 2nd gen , let's see....within 1k fuel pump fail left me stranded. 2k all four brake rotors and calipers replaced (rumblestrip and squeal). Within 3k weak rear leaf springs replaced along with rear shocks and front coil overs. Windshield weather strip replaced twice (kazoo). Timing chain cover started leaking.
All of these issues fixed by Toyota via tsb or warranty except the timing chain cover leak ( it was a minimal leak and didn't want dealer tards touching it).. Windshield kazoo returned at 30k then disappeared at 60k.... Loved this truck!

Had my 3rd gen for 5 mons and now have 3.6k... Only thing so far is trans tsb done at 2k.
So far, loving this truck as well.

I thought our beloved Tacoma's never go belly up? :notsure:
    Solid reliability!
I'm driving my truck into the ground & squeezing every single cent of that reliability.
Just like the my other toy pickups, damn my 95 SR5 Xcab is still on the Vermont roads today!
(A friend bought it from me at 250k)
It looks like heck though, poor lil rust bucket. I think it has at least 400k on its crappy 3.0 engine.
Hopefully Toy will extend their campaign to the 2013's someday so I can replace my frame!
If my 2GEN doesn't last, I don't know what I would buy though. Been driving a Toyota truck since 1987.
Maybe a plain jane SR 2.7 4x4 stick. Those are priced pretty good & am now leaving on my military retirement.
    Can't throw cash around :)

When you lose power to a vehicle, do you think everyone knows how to handle a panic situation?

Just like everyone that died or got injured from floor mats getting stuck under the accelerator. Makes no sense to me as almost all brakes can out match the engine, but hey you know best. Maybe you should have fought for Toyota when they had floor mat issues.... Right.

Toyota may not MAKE the components, but they are ultimately responsible in the eyes of the consumer and govt agency.

I am simply putting facts in front of people. But apparently you don't like the truth. Maybe you also drink the BLM and Killary kool aid too?

You forgot to tell us who makes that cps in your glorius Tundra. Same aftermarket company as Tacoma. Good chance even same part no. Better sell again if they are failing left and right like you say.

It's also not hard to move the gear selector to neutral and apply the brakes, or turn the key to the "off" position. Sometimes people make a big deal over minimal issues because they can't think their way through an issue.

The internet gives people a voice, and obviously you're going to hear more about a manufacturers issues on a Forum dedicated to that particular manufacture/model vehicle.

Like someone else said, you hear more about the issues from the people that experience them than you do from people who have no issues, because they have nothing to report.

I've had my truck for 10 months, I have 6,500 miles on it. Not nearly enough miles for my opinion to truly matter to some people, but I haven't had any of these issues people are reporting. Maybe I don't know what I'm trying to hear with the rear-end howl but I've driven it down the highway a couple miles windows up no AC and just hear the normal road noise. My truck shifts smooth, power is there when I need it. No issues going from P-D or R-D or D-R. No hood vibration, no squeaks, no leaks, no loss of power, nothing. (Maybe I should knock on wood?)

I know I've said it in a post before, but my only complaints are my own problems. Like I don't think the factory radio sounds good or goes loud enough, my fault, should of went JBL. I can fix that with aftermarket from an audio shop. My other issue, I should of been a little more patient, ignored my wife, and waited for a stick. My fault. I came from a SI and another civic with a stick. After 5 years of daily stick driving I get awfully bored driving around town. But like I said my fault. My wife convinced me into getting the auto, probably the second dumbest thing I've ever done. (first was selling my 97 chevy, gosh I miss that truck)

To each their own. For every ONE person that has a issue with their vehicle there's probably 100(or more) that have none.

I love this truck. But at heart I'm a car and older model truck kind of guy. After almost 1 year with this truck, my only complaints are that she's Auto and the radio sucks.
