As soon as I updated my phone, the next time in my truck it started a mandated update to the system. Very quick

Is there a way to force the Entune system to update?

You can have it check for updates in settings. Mine did the update as soon as I started the truck. Still didn't help with messaging.

This is very frustrating because I was dealing with this back in November when I bought my truck. I have an iPhone 6 Plus with the most updated IOS and my Entune has the most updated update (installed it last Sunday). Apple (iPhone) will not let you reply to texts nor will it notify you when you receive emails. However, like many of you said, you can reply by using Siri.

Go to Setting--> Bluetooth --> Click on the ! to the right of CarAccessorySystem. Make sure it looks like the attached photo. Also, this is what drove me nuts at first. If you have your message app open and you are texting someone via your phone and that person texts you back it won't show up with a notification through Entune. If someone else texts you, you will get that notification.

So, basically us Apple users only get about 75% of the Entune messaging features as those with an Android phone. I'll never get rid of my iPhone becuase I like it to much so I just have to accept that I will only get 75% of the message/email feature of Entune.

I hope this help you out.

One of the most frustrating things is that according to the owner's manual, messages won't be read if you are in drive. What's the point? If I'm parked, I'll just read the damn message on the phone.

I'm guessing it's a safety thing. They want you to keep your eyes on the road. I just hit the button and listen to it. It still freaks me out when my wife texts me and I hit play and the voice says I love you. Lol

But it says it's not available while in drive. I can take my eyes off the road all I want while in park. Kind of reminds me of my Subaru. The quick-dial presets weren't available while in drive. Since the voice dial was crazy inaccurate, I'd have to physically use my phone to call people.

I don't know what the problem is. Phone settings perhaps?

IOS will never work with cars like Android phones do. Im not sure who to blame on this. Likely Apple. My 2016 Honda has Apple Car play and that still seems 'crippled' as far as how Android just works.

You cant press or 'read' the text on the entune - but the system will READ IT TO YOU when you are driving. But if someone sends an emoji in the text
usually Entune cant read any of the message. So while they say you cant READ it, they mean manually pressing VIEW/READ while driving. Must use the system to dictate the text to you.

Email from Apple into Entune? - Nope. I dont see that happening, even though it LOOKS like it should work.

If you really want ALL these features - need to go to Android. I have both and the android works and gives you 100% of the features. Its nice to have email read to me while I'm driving. Something I'll likely never see with Apple and Entune.

It sucks......at least calls work, right?

Amen brother it does indeed suck and the head unit should work whether you have a iPhone or Android phone. Everyone has spent their hard earned cash for a feature with the Entune system that does not work fully and that truly does suck. There is no reason in this world I can think of why Toyota, who knows they have a problem, can't buy or develop software for the head unit that will allow all features to work no matter what cell phone you have. Toyota dropped the ball on this big time!

I agree too, had I known about all this I might have waited. Thanks for the advice.
Onto something else about entune, how can I get navigation updates?

I wanted to report back that I have done all of this and also deleted my phone and added it back. My text NO longer come across this system like they were before I upgraded to the latest IOS. I am ticked that the system is so temperamental! Am I the only one having this issue?

Like I said, it all worked fine before the IOS update.

I did the update and it was not working while I had the phone plugged up to the USB charging cable. I then tried it later without being plugged into the lightning port and it worked fine.

So I just did the "forget/re-pair" method... before I "forgot", my iPhone 6+ said something like "CarAudioSystem" as the device. Now it says "Toyota Tacoma". Guess that proves something significant changed.

BTW, I had to re-pair a set of Bluetooth headphones and a Bluetooth speaker after iOS 10 came out.

Hmm, if it didn't say Toyota Tacoma then something went wrong with the initial pairing I think.

I noticed that when I plugged my phone into the USB port it would change it to Car Audio System. I'd re-pair the phone and it would go back to Toyota Tacoma. I'd have to do this each time I charged the phone with the USB port. I haven't had a problem since I switched to a 12v USB adapt or the Qi charging.

Oh... good info, maybe thats why I never saw that -- I never charged off the USB port.

This is the fix. My 5s worked fine until I updated to the IOS. Then when I bought the 7plus it quit. All I had to do is change the Blue tooth setting to "Show notifications". Thank you sir.
