Little late but I recently bought a Taurus
.38 special from a friend for $80, I think I got a pretty good deal. I just wanted something small to carry in the woods when we're scouting & setting up stands, just in case. We've run into wild dogs before & had nothing with us if some had happened.

 

Shit, for $80 it ain't bad at all.

 

Yeah, that's what I thought. It's my first pistol, got plenty of rifles. Still would like a 40 or 9 or even both. Haha
Here she is, want to get a rubber grip.

 

I also want to get another 40 and my first 9 Then a Mossberg .308 down the road

Why both? The difference between the two bullets is marginal. .380/3.57/9mm -.40
Is 9 vs 10mm.

Got the new Bass Pro Shops flyer today & they have a Taurus .380 for $240 & a Remington .380 for $380.
I'm new to pistols so don't know a whole lot, I've shot them before just never got into them until now. My father in law has a Beretta .45 someone gave him to settle a debt, he told my wife he was gonna give it to us but haven't seen it yet. Haha

 

This is all my personal opinion and it's worth less than you paid for it. Lol

9mm vs 40. 9mm wins It cheaper for one thing. Has virtually the same stopping power, less recoil, and your gun can hold 1 more round vs the same gun chambered in 40

Taurus semi autos are notorious for jamming.


What's your main purpose for the gun? Maybe I can point you in the right direction

I don't have my concealed weapon permit so it would be just to go to the range or out in the woods. Plus I'd just like to have more guns. Haha

 

I kill a lot of paper targets then.

 

If you're planning on a 380, try out a glock 42. It can be had for about $350. Easy to clean and reliable as hell

If you end up with a 9mm or 40. The s&w shield is a great compact gun. Look for the ones without a thumb safety if you can find it

For the money, those are what i would look at. You could go hogwild if you wanted to though. Kimbers are wonderful but come with a hefty price tag.

I want a .50 desert eagle, but that ain't happnin

 

Thanks for your input! No solid plans right now but I would like to add a few more to my collection. Would like to get another shotgun one day also, traded the one I had to get my first rifle back in the day. I have 3 rifles, a muzzle loader & now the pistol. A shotgun would be a nice addition.
