Dean Lombardi sure made a mess of the Team USA selections

His press conference defending the selections was hilarious. Basically said 'it worked for the Kings. We won a couple Cups with a roster built that way.'.....Well, ya it works fine against most NHL teams. But regular NHL teams aren't team Canada, Russia etc. LA Kings can shut down a team's top couple guys, play tight enough to suffocate secondary scoring and then still have enough fire-power to score their own goals. Works pretty good against salary-capped, NHL teams. In WC you are facing teams like Canada, that has Stamkos as a 4th-liner. So explain to me, why role-players like Dubinsky etc are on this team lol. The WC teams can roll 4 lines of talent, so you need to select your most talented guys, also. Muck and grind aint gonna get it done. Blows my mind, what they were thinking.

Agreed, except I think in the next year or two several of those NA team members will be on Team Canada. A few will be ready before their birthday is ready for this tournaments Team Canada. Hockey is a young mans game now.

Trying to be excited. But it's not easy - knowing that this buffoon is making a dump truck load of dough. And he'll be well over the hill, long before his bloated contract is up.
Plus.....as a long time Oilers fan.....I've learned it's pretty idiotic to get jazzed about a new season. I'll get pumped, when they're playing meaningful games in Jan/Feb.

Russian hockey is so pathetic it's getting funny now. Probably their best player of all time is best known for his all around game and excellent defensive 2way hockey. But yet they keeping pumping out these one dimensional players like OV, Kuznetsov, tarasenko, panarin, malkin etc. It's like they're don't get it. Toews and Crosby own this game right now. It to mention the others

 

I dunno. Russia isn't playing too badly. They're winning a lot of the puck battles.

Canada needs to pour it on much harder.
