I've seriously never heard of a number anywhere close to that. We had a few k9 guys and the highest I ever heard someone talk was 10K for the dog (shipped from overseas) but often times they're actually donated. Then 15K for the training depending if your agency reimburses you.

Yeah, all the dogs we had were expensive... but $10-20k typically. That is just with basic training though.

the guys I know are no longer mil/leo, and purchased their animals as an individual. perhaps that has something to do with price/no reimbursement

I've worked with my students at freedom serviced dogs they say their dogs would cost over 25k after their rehab and training if you bought one but they don't do that exactly. My rescue has been amazing. the girl who I got her from, her dad made her give the dog away, but she had papers from akc so I got a bit lucky and understand both sides of it

dual battery is just half of it. depending on what you are trying to power, you may need an alternator upgrade as well. adding a second battery means the alternator has to charge that in addition to its normal load. since the alternator is the source of power when your truck is running, you need to make sure that whatever is connected doesnt exceed the maximum of your alternator. once you reach 125% of an alternators maximum, you damage the coils and it shortens the life dramatically. prolonged load will destroy it very quickly. you also need to know that auto manufacturers dont give a lot of overhead when it comes to them. they use just enough to power the vehicle. best suggestion is to see if toyota has an upgraded alternator for your truck. an oem alternator will outlast an aftermarket one by far. owning a car audio shop, i have had my fair share of alternator issues and have had to do a lot of modifications to get things right. however i doubt you will be pulling 300 additional amps of current. that being said, adding a second battery isnt a problem. get a 200amp relay and some 4ga wire and you are good to go. make sure your second battery is a deep cycle so it can be drained and recharged without capacity loss. first step is to figure out how much current you plan on drawing. with the vehicle off, it doesnt matter, the second battery will be isolated and when its dead, you just fire up the truck to charge it. i have spent the last 16 years as an installer and have done many of these setups for people. if you have any questions, let me know.

I was away for work when this one was picked out at the rescue. Though, she picked me once I was back. She looks like a factory mistake - she's a Basset Hound and (I think) Golden Retriever mix. Runs like a bullet; I've been meaning to take the camera with me to the dog park to try to do some running shots.
