I had the delay with my 14 dblcb Tacoma. And occasionally with my 16 the dealership said due to everything being electronically controlled it doesn't have the same response as a cable throttle. I told them that retarded and dangerous. My 14 was a 2.7 4 cyl atleast with the v6 you can romp it even after a delay. They kept saying let it roll and then gas it. Still kinda sketchy way of thinking in my opinion

    Nothing worthy

VERY unnerving and NOT the way they should run. I took one off the lot around town for 30 minutes or so and it was perfect!!!

I have to say in the beginning it really sketched me out. I'm a pool guy so I spend 6-8 hrs a day driving all over my county but I've kinda gotten used to it. I have a 16 SR5 and just had the update done yesterday. To be honest I haven't floored it but it definitely seems to have a better response and smoother shift. All in all today it drove like a completely different truck. Mileage even improved alittle. But that's just from one day after the update.

The service manager was super cool and easy to deal with. He was curious on people's feelings on the Tacoma and I gave him my 2 cents and told him if he was truly curious and wanted to be proactive he should set up an account on Tacoma world so that he's in the loop on the ticks and kinks people talk about and some of the tech stuff. He was pretty receptive and said he check it. It's nice to go to a dealership and not have to deal with the hassle of a douche that's out for as much as they can get out of ya.

Got the transmission TSB service completed today along with my first scheduled maintenance, initial findings:
-eliminated the N-D delay from before
-acceleration is far more tolerable (previously it would downshift excessively)
-gas mileage on my trip home was considerably better (15miles of stop and go I-90/I-5 traffic netted a 19.1mpg average. Previously 15.5)
-the fiancé will no longer think that I'm showing off, hot-roding around when I'm simply trying to pass

Overall impression, extremely positive. Thank you for making me aware of Toyota's attempt to make things right. TW FTW!

All I can say is that enjoy it while it lasts. My slipping from 1-2 and 2-3 came back after 1500 miles. The N-D is still fixed. It was awesome for those 1500 miles.

First time this has happened! Between San Luis Obispo and a town called Santa Margarita there is a 8% percent grade that is several miles long. I drive this grade several times a week. While driving it today I kept my Taco in D not S4 like I usually do. Things were going along fine pulling 3k RPM then all of a sudden she dropped a gear and was stuck at 4500k RPM and I mean stuck! It wouldn't come out of this gear and high RPM until I was over the grade. Wtf!

That's pretty standard for me. Hell I'll climb Boulder pass and it'll hit 5,500 RPM until I'm up and over. Speed limit 75-80mph.

Called corporate today, started a case number. How are those that are getting the extended warranties going about it? Do you just ask for one, or are you feeding the rep the proper info?

    Thanks

I went in yesterday complaining about that also and they did the above and trans was a quart low. My shift points were redone also.

    Do floormats count?
I had my truck looked at yesterday. It was displaying all the tell-tale signs. Truck has just over 8000 miles. 1 quart low. Dealership filled the trans, applied the TSB, and all without complaint. Shift delay is gone. Truck seems to drive more like I expected and it's not so quick to try to shift to the highest gear.

Dropping my truck off for the 5k service this afternoon and I'm going to ask them to perform the TSB and physically check the fluid.

I hopped under the truck last night and marked the drain/check plug with some grey nail polish so I can tell if they cracked it open or not.

Interestingly enough, while I was under there I got a good look at the front u-joints and they do look like they got greased, whether at the factory or as part of dealer prep who knows... but I was glad to see it. I didn't bother looking at the rest of them, but I would think if you were doing one set you'd work your way down the whole line.

Look close... they have black paint from the assembly plant on the ends of the zerks... scratch it off with your finger nail and grease the shit outta those puppies... Check manual for grease type..!!
    Good luck.

I'm picking up my 2017 Sport 4x4 DCSB early next month from Manhattan Beach Toyota. Given this TSB seems to be geared towards 2016, any reason they shouldn't be willing to apply this to my 2017 while I'm picking it up? Or are we required to state there's been some irregularity noticed while driving before they apply it? I'm sketched out about even driving the new transmission without having them apply this. The salesman already refused for them to check the fluid level, anyone know a service rep at Manhattan Beach Toyota worth speaking to about this? Appreciate the help and this thread!

Why not at least drive the damn truck before whining to service? There's a ton of us out here who have never had a problem with the transmission. Give it a chance!

Unfortunately, in my case, I probably did not see real issues for a couple of months. It did have a hesitation from P-D and R-D very early. Chances are your truck has the flash done at assembly. Or the transmission program was completely updated in the build. You probably will need to drive it and look for the signs. Take a long test drive before taking delivery. If you see any slipping between 1-2 or 2-3 during normal slow acceleration, or witness any issues climbing uphill with cruise on and hanging in a lower gear, or notice harsh downshifting when slowing from 45 mph to a stop, or have a noticeable hesitation when going from R-D, then do not accept delivery without the fluid check and possible TSB. They will not touch it unless you have one of those issues. I think yours is factory fixed. The problem with mine, like a few others, is that 1500 miles after the TSB that was awesome, my 1-2 and 2-3 slipping is coming back. Hesitation seems to be permanently fixed. I trust that Toyota will find a permanent cure. I will give them another year, to completely fix it, unless it gets much worse. There are some that had no issues.

Ok so here is the update... Manhattan are idiots... DO NOT have the service done there.. They told me they manually checked the fluid and it was 100% and they did not actually check it. I took it to DCH in torrance and they added 3 qts.... 3.... so they are full of crap. Also, I had the Chirping noise from the fuel pump and they were telling me its normal and its not... DCH replaced that too.. Take your truck to COBY in service. He knows the issues now and youll have it done correctly.. You need to call Toyota and open a case with the corp office.. then take your truck in. That way they have to add notes and I think Im getting an extended warranty. Dont listen to anyone about waiting for a problem... Make sure the Fluid is correct. My 2017 was close to 3 qts low... thats a ton.

The low fluid issue is obviously still an issue with the 2017 trucks .
