I was going to go with bamf, until I read that some surface rust happens where the bolts are. I have dealt with surface rust on metal parts before. At first its no big deal to brush off and clean up, then it gets old. Plastic will look the same 10 years from now, while metal will not. That was my only gripe about the bamf, grille.

Personally, It's just not my thing.... just something about it doesn't call my name and something about the TRD PRO does....

like $420 or less total cost including shipping..... i think Josh is the cheapest option to send to hawaii... but hes waiting on more stock.. ive been emailing josh he said VIA Canada Post quoted $106 shipping to hawaii ... not sure if thats CN or US dollars. i heard servco had 5 grilles the other day but sold out same day. they told me 525 at first if I prepay order. but after agreed to a 10% off for TRD parts @ 475$.... im gonna do one or the other.

Aesthetics is subjective and I like the looks of the pro grill better. In my opinion, the bamf grill doesn't match the contours of the vehicle very well. Especially the center opening....i would like it better if the corners weren't so sharp. The opening doesn't really match the rest of the grills form factor. I prefer plastic vs mild steel for a grill. Less maintenance. It's a grill....not a bumper, sliders or skids. So durability is a moot point. How often do we hear about busted grills.

Also, you don't see me bashing the bamf grill in other threads, but responses like yours gives me the opportunity to respond and share MY opinion.

I don't get it...why do we see the chrome bezel in this pic, yet the pic of the white Tacoma upthread had no bezel...?
what am I missing here...I installed my grill and there doesn't seem to be anywhere for the bezel to go?

Dude go outside and look at your truck. Compare the picture you are looking at. Do you see any kind of seam? NO. The TRD pro grill is all one piece. The "surround" is that big piece of plastic that goes all the way to the headlights.

That's referring to the surround. The bezel is a different animal. The pro grill doesn't require a bezel. The surround is the painted part.

I know that...I am talking about the bezel. My TRD grill is 2 pieces; the grill and the bezel. the bezel screws on. I notice a small gap once I installed the trd pro grill between the grill and the white surround, and thought maybe I forgot to attach the chrome bezel piece to the new assembly before putting it on the truck.
I guess that other thread had me confused.

I should have mine installed Wednesday evening (still in transit). I'll check for the same and report back here.

I read that a couple people were having signs of surface rust near the bolts on the front but didn't think much of it. If it does become an issue, I'll just put on a new layer of paint or have it powder coated down the road. As far as black plastic, it can show signs of fading and appear gray years down the road. It could be painted as well, so they both may have their issues. One might hold up to rock chips better than the other, but only time will tell. My last grill was powder coated metal and never showed any signs of rust over the time I owned it. However, the black plastic bezel did lighten from sun exposure over that time.

All in all they are both great modifications to the appearance of the Tacoma and can't really go wrong with either choice. Happy modding

I agree. It's all personal preference. I feel both JLee and Toyota did a great job on designing a quality style front grill. I can say that the chrome braces from Toyota for the Offroad and Sport package on the other hand was a horrible design by Toyota.

Let's all be civil in here now and play nice.
