It surprised the hell out of me, because for the first month or so of going to the park, she rarely went further than 30 feet from me and never ran. One day, gone. She won't chase a ball, but she'll chase a dog chasing a ball.

I don't have any good full-body shots of her, yet. She's long, lean, low and all muscle... with those goofy, awkward front Basset legs. She never fails to get attention from other people when at the park. The first thing I said when I first saw her in person was she looked like she was made out of spare dog parts.

I so need to practice with the camera at the park, now.

More than likely those flashing lights are on a tow truck waiting for your POS Dodge to break down. :rimshot:

So now that winter might as well be here, what do you keep in your vehicle for a safety kit..in addition to the typical tools and recovery gear? A freak blizzard might not happen, but a quick trail run could go awry and require camping out and not freezing your ass off.

    Jacket
    Socks
    full long underwear
    Boots
    Micro Spikes
    Beanie
    Gloves
    Hand warmers/toe warmers
    Food
    Blanket/emergency blanket
Lighter/Vaseline soaked cotton balls for fire starter

shovel/maxtrax/hatchet/tools/recovery already on truck all the time.

Any recommendations for tire chains? I would like to add them for goofing off on snow runs but also for better grip for recoveries. I have thought about adding a wheel chock or two for the same reason. I was trying to recover a moron (yes it was earned) from a ditch last winter but the whole road was icy so I could not get any traction to pull. Having something that would dig in and give me leverage would be nice although I guess I could just dig a small rut in the snow and put a branch in it which may work.

I just got rid of my mounted CB/antenna. Maybe I'll throw a collapsible tent pole that could be used in the event of something getting buried under snow. (Used the CB antenna before to locate the shittybilt traction boards that got submerged after use. Without it, they would've never been located.

    Need to add:
    snow probe
    flare/strobe
    chains

I really like the diamond-style ones from tirechains.com. Not as pricy as Rud and other "high-end" chains, and I have no complaints about them.

Pull pal? Then again im still trying to find a time when i need it!

On the same note of winter gear.

RTT was thinking i was going to take it off for winter and run the basket for winter gear, that being said would it be worth it if i ever did get stuck some place in the winter and had to spend the night to have the tent? Im planning on getting one of the winter covers for it and it has -20deg sleeping bags already in it.

    Any thoughts

I like having the rtt up there for just that reason. Also, keeps some precipitation out of the bed..some

Some is a very loose word to use

Unless youre @PS78 in that case you have an awning even with the tent closed.

If I got stuck, I'd rather sleep in the truck. But I'm not a RTT guy to begin with.

Thats what im asking. If im planning on camping during the winter ill have the tent but if i was to get stuck and needed to spend the night and i had a choice which one would be better??? I know i can make it a night in the cab, but what if i have a passanger or some thing. Is it worth it at that point to have the tent on

def more comfy, like you said, especially if i have a passenger which i usually do. Most always have my dog. she'd be way more comfortable in the tent, not to mention shes a battery-less heater.

And if you're like me and like to have a glass of whiskey before sleep, particularly winter camping, that'd be best done outside of the vehicle.. :bananadance:

    Balaclava
    Long Underwear
    Long Top

    Whistle
    Shovel
AAA and AA batteries, 4x each.
Flashlight (maglight LED 3x D batteries replaced once per year)
    Headlamp
    1 Gallon of water
    Camping stove (Jetboil)
    Magnesium fire starter
    Pocket knife
    2x 2400 calorie emergency rations.
    Box of granola bars
Some packages of Ramen (sometimes a can or two of soup instead)
