The brakes on these are notorious for feeling spongy while providing good braking. Moisture in the fluid is the most likely culprit if it's getting worse.

A booster can cause a spongy pedal, also remember fluid can not be compressed but air can . There may be air in the system. I agree with 58 siesta.

My brake pedal almost goes to the floor. I have completely overhaul my back brakes. Change the rotors and pads on front brakes. Replace the master cylinder and even replace the ABS with a used one. It doesn't seem like I have very good hydraulic pressure on the back brakes. When I change the ABS I blow out the lines going to the back brakes. Completely changed out all the brake fluid and I have bled the lines tell my nose bleeds

The one thing that I can say that the front brakes have an extremely good hydraulics but the back brakes don't seem to. First pump on the brake pedal it's pretty good after that not so good

I have the same thing happening to me after get new pads and machining the rotors at the dealership. I took it back twice and they sware up and down there is no issue and the brakes are "operating within specifications." I then took the truck to a second dealership only to have them tell me the same thing. Thinking about taking it into a neighborhood garage to see what they say.

At times they will almost go to the floor. My problem was already there before I started working on the brakes

I think I'm going to back up and punt. Starting with checking my push rod on my brake booster to make sure that its set at the right lenth. I will keep everyone posted on my progress

Here is an issue that I'm not really clear on. If there's something wrong with the brake booster other than the push rod not being adjusted right wouldn't it just make the brakes harder to push

Did you go OEM when replacing your master cylinder? Sure sounds like a bad master, or air in the system. Wheel cylinders okay? You may want to look into new ones.

If a brake booster is shot pedal will be hard and low.worse feeling than manual brakes if you get what I mean. You don't what to hear this but bleed them again.mine took awhile .when we were done my friends leg looked like Popeyes arm.good luck.ps I adjust rear shoes to almost a drag that will make pedal feel a little firmer at start of stopping.

exact same thing with mine after changing out front pads took it to the dealer they said its normal, took to a reputable shop they said normal too. I think the brake pedal is soft especially at a stop it sinks too deep but holds and it does stop ok other than that the pedal feels soft. mines a 2013 too but there are others with this issue been researching it a lot. I don't think its a master cylinder mines got 50k miles on it and the pedal is hard with the engine off.

x2 on this also taking it out to an abandoned parking lot and locking them up a few times brings the pedal feel a bit better

Swap out the brake fluid. I highly recommend 1 liter of Motul RBF 600, following a careful bleeding procedure.

This fluid is great! Never feels like it ever degrades unless you go to a track( I had it in my mazda6 for 6 years). My wife had to heavy brake to evade a dumbass high school kid while driving our RAV4 sport( which I swapped brakes with Hawk HPS and brake fluid above, as well as rotora rotors)...she was pleased with the stopping response. Can't wait to flush my Tacoma lines with this stuff when it's time for new brakes up front.
