This weekend I removed the TRD Sport stickers from the bed sides and installed a Prestige APS997E alarm with remote start.

How hard was the install on the alarm and remote start?

As far as remote starts go, the Tacoma is one of the less complicated vehicles to do. I have previous experience though. I was a mobile electronics installer by trade from 1994 to 2005.

    This Bypass: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00H2PHSY2/

The bypass will need to be flashed for your Tacoma before it will work. You can buy it from this eBay seller and he will pre-flash it for you to work with your specific vehicle:

Its DEFINITELY NOT plug and play! Both the APS997E and the DBALL2 come with directions. Your ease of install will be directly proportional to your electrical and mechanical abilities.

As far as what else you'll need for the install, here is a majority of what I used: Strpippers, crimpers, diagonal end cutters, trim panel removal tool, soldering iron, rosin core solder, 3M Super 33 electrical tape, 10mm 1/4" drive socket, 1/4" drive ratchet, #2 phillips head screwdriver, electric drill with 1/4" shank, 1/4" #2 phillips insert, some 1/4" self-tapping screws, center punch, grommet tool, razor blade knife, black silicone sealant, digital volt/ohm meter, flashlight, tie straps, double sided tape, two pairs of old black ankle socks and probable some other stuff I forgot to mention.

If you need a basic tutorial on how to install a remote start, this guy has a pretty good 4 part video series on Youtube using the same unit that I just installed:

It would be super cool if you did a step by step for our trucks...but probably a little late for that. Or even just a wire to wire how to with colors and where to find them.

I would love to have an aftermarket alarm and remote start again that would auto lock my doors when I shift out of park...

I installed this one. Very flexible with settings and I can even set my key fob to lock and unlock all doors with one click. Check out my build thread for install videos. The guy that sells the kit makes them plug and play with the exception of three wires (lock, unlock, and horn). Install only took me about two hours with no previous experience.

Edit: also the tachometer has to be connected from the obd2 port wires. So 5 total connections, but all the ignition harness is plug and play.

I know there will be haters but... Finished up the front lighting. Upgraded fogs with on-anytime mod. Finished the KCs install and aiming - KC 100W halogen bulbs in those spots. Did the Hella 500FF modded with 3k yellow 55W HID behind grille - properly aimed for fog. Also did Morimoto 50W HID bi-xenon 5k kit designed to work with OEM headlight - nice cut off line and no light splash. They are actually quite nice - was skeptical but am impressed. All routed to factory type switches in the center. Every switch built in the stock dash now has a function - no blanks. Just a pet peeve. UFO puts out lots of light in every spectrum! Looking to see how it all holds up. It is extremely well installed with super duty harnesses properly routed for stock look and durability. We shall see.image.jpgimage.jpg image.jpgimage.jpg
