I've been shopping a while and come to the realization that there are a couple good boxes, and a whole bunch of CRAP. Kobalt-types are a JOKE and I think I could cut through them with a pocket knife. I was pretty much settled on a UWS but found this 42" powdercoated chest made by Taylor Wings locally. It is pricey (paid $315) but a damn solid box. VERY heavy duty, as good or better than the UWS.

man i like that. I got a UWS like that, but the it only has one latch and it's in the center; therefore it's about impossible to reach from outside the bed. What's with the aluminum underneath the lid? Never seen that before.

How did you all mount your UWS chest? I have one bolt on the passenger side through the bed, and that secures just fine, but on the drivers side it is darn near impossible to get to the bolt because of the gas tank in the way...thoughts? I think I could get it but it would not be a quick uninstall.

pick up a couple plus nuts. They work with minimal clearance and the box can be quickly removed.

I was able to put 3 bolts in mine... left, right and center. I ordered my box from Sears... custom fit for Tacoma. Pricy but I did not like others I looked at and did not want over-the-rail type. Low profile was what I was looking for. Pic is from my former 06, now in my 09. Nice box Steve. I like the dark color!

Im going all out and ordering a custom box from ProTech. Going to cost me a pretty penny but the things are built to last forever. My dad has had one in his Sierra for 10+ years and the thing has been beat on hard and still looks brand new. Im hoping there is a slim chance if it turns out solid that they may give me a discount since I'm basically creating a model for them to build off for future tacoma trucks. When I get it in a month or two ill post pics.

It'd be easy to drill through the bed in the front there's really not much underneath in that area. Just put some big fender washers and nylock nuts under the bed and it'd be good to go.

On my LB Access cab I can get maybe a foot or 18" back from the front of the bed before the gas tank becomes an issue when I put my rails in.
