Anyone own a Kahr??

I'm looking for a slim, light weight off duty carry. I've carried everything from a Glock 23, Kimber pro carry, Sig p232, Smith M&P compact 9, Smith 340pd .357 and am currently carrying a Sig p220 carry. I am interested in the Kahr CW9 or CW40 for cost of training ammo and availability. Any Kahr owners out there with honest opinions?

I don't own one, but I'll offer an opinion of why I don't. Definitely shoot one before you decide to buy. I found that there was something sharp on the slide or top edge of the frame, can't remember if it was takedown lever, or serrations, but either way there was something that seemed to dig into my right hand thumb where it rested. They're great pistols though, for a DA trigger they're pretty smooth.

Edit: Have you looked at the Walther PPS? It's really thin, and is available in 9mm and .40.

 

I did look at the Walther, not too hot on the looks. i like the slimness of it, but I just can't seem to get past the looks of the grip. I know it's kinda trivial. I was also thinking of putting a Hogue slip on grip to tone down the abrasive grips of the Polymer Frame. I definitey want ot test shoot one though.

I just purchased a Kahr .380. I don't have a permit, so I have to wait the 5 days. My Dep't just approved a Kel-tec, Ruger, or Kahr .380 for back-up/ off-duty. I shot all three at the range. The Kahr is BY FAR the best, but it cost me $600.00 dollars. It's the only drop safe gun of the three. I also have a Glock 23 ported. The Kahr is like a mini Glock. I can get you a website where they are going for $560.00 LEO with a letter from your Dep't, but it will take me a few days.

 

BTW, I'm diggin' the Black and White. Waiting for my Charger to come in. If it withstands the test, we're considering phasing out the Crown Vics. which Ford keeps threatening to cease making?

My agency is no longer going to buy anymore Chargers. Out of the 150 some odd Patrol cars we have, I have 1 of 4 Chargers (Take home ride too).

 

I have owned a Kahr K40 for over ten years as a CCW/recreational shooter with not one single problem or complaint. I chose it for the slim grip as it felt better in my hand vs other compacts.

 

I've had a Kahr P9 Covert for several years now. It is usually my summer carry. I also use it for IDPA in the summer. The Covert model is the one with the shortened grip but standard size barrel lenght. It is basically a cross between a PM9 and a P9. It shoots nicely. Capacity is only 6 +1 with standard MK magazine. You can use a P9 magazine as well.
My other carry is a Glock 26.

 

What about a keltec 9mm?

 

I haven't heard very many god things about the Keltec. My buddy had one of the .380's and it felt extremely cheap. That thing jammed at least once with every magazine load! I would rather spend a little extra money to get somebody more dependable!

 

I agree with the above. Kel-tec was cheap piece of crap that will most likely not hold up to qualification. The Glock 27 is small, but heavy because of the double magazine. I don't do fanny packs, so I carry my 23 inside the waist. Good luck. Stay safe.

 

Yeah, the PPS is kinda love it or hate it looks. A shop here had it in a slate blue polymer, it was almost baby blue. Talk about fugly. On the plus side, for a south paw the mag release is ambi, and is in the bottom of the trigger guard. Also a love it or hate it thing. If you're trained to use a mag release a certain way, I wouldn't want to screw that up and risk having the wrong muscle memory in a high stress situation.

 

Kahr PM9 is my everyday carry.
Very nice little CC.
I like the 6rd mag with pinky entension.
The weight and thinness(?) make it easy to take along.
I don't think I'd carry a doublestack as much as the Kahr.
