No they do not need to be.
You can keep the plugs out, it just protects the mattress cover so it wont snag on it. But it is under the mat so I dont keep them on.

 

As weird as it sounds...some folks never lose one and a few folks will no matter what they do. I have no answer.

 

I would change out the bolt, and nylon locking nut with new and put some medium strength Loctite Grade "B" on the nut and tighten.

 

I would put a new nut on there when drill a small hole in the bolt for a small sized cotter pin.

 

If you don't plan on removing the bolt, just put the nut on and tack weld it in place.

 

Put down a fire blanket over the tent material of course.

 

AH, thanks for that image @Cascadia Tents those holes on the inside of tent makes using those poles perfect. Id have to modify to use them which could happen. Ill shoot you a PM to see how to order

 

Ive camped out 3 times in my Smittybilt Overlander and couldn't be happier. Twice a severe storm moved through, and despite the high winds and rain, the tent stayed dry. I'd recommend it!

 

@phillstill & @VolcomTacoma I'm sorry for the late response guys. I finally got the bars and the tent in place and love how it looks and how performs. My wife keep asking me when are going out again. My father helped me to installed and we used some exhaust clamps to secure the tent. Also we added some security nuts that I found at the local fastenall. The whole setup has a 165lb weight witch is no bad. Gas millage drop from 19 to 18mpg. Here are some pictures
