    Here's what i have.

2014 Tacoma TRD. WIth only 28,000km on it. (august of 2017 is when 3 year warranty is over).

Dealer called me today. offered me a 2017 TRD Sport Upgrade package, with a hard tonneau and block heather, 10$ less a bi-weekly payment.

I tow 5,000lbs with my taco right now.

Will this new engine perform as it shows on specs? appears to have more HP then the 4.2L...
    How is gas millage?

    Thoughts?

Maybe 4-5 times a year. at 150km total, not far. typically go up north on a 90/km/h hwy. This coming year we are hoping for a seasonal, so 1 full tow.

    Do explain...
I see it as i don't have to do the upcoming maintenance..500$...saving on tires in a little bit. 1000$..gaining back my warranty...

I would say some of it depends on WHERE you tow. If you tow on flat land a Tacoma will tow 5,000 lbs pretty good. If you live in the mountains or plan to do at high elevation, that is where a Tacoma will struggle big time.
I would say the 3.5 liter is less ideal for towing than the 4.0 liter but not my much. You gotta rev it more to get the torque you need which is less than ideal for towing but once up to speed the 3.5 might pull a little better.
If you are towing only 4-5 times a year than I think the Tacoma will probably be okay.

Looking only at the monthly payments is naïve. It is always what the sales guys will push. If you have been making say $400/mo payments for 2 years and they are offering you a little less in monthly payments, you are completely overlooking the $10,000 loss you will be taking on the payments already made to your existing loan.

That means nothing by itself. You don't say what you remaining balance is (if any) on the 2014 or what the dealer is offering as trade-in value or what the dealer is charging for the new 2017.

If warranty and prepaid maintenance are your big things, it's usually MUCH cheaper to just buy those for a current truck than to buy a new truck to get them.

Work out the total cost of the deal and see what it's going to really cost you. We can help get to that total cost if you'll provide the details.

Generally speaking when a dealers calls you to offer a trade-up deal it's to the dealer's advantage not yours.

Bingo! When the dealer starts talking in terms of monthly payments that's a red flag.

they can get your monthly payments as low as you want by just increasing the years you have to pay...and the interest clock is running the whole time.

Don't do it. Dealerships are in the business for making money, not saving you any. While I do like, notice I didn't say love, and enjoy my 16, my 11 would have been a lot closer to being paid for if I had kept it. The low end torque was better for pulling my trailer. Even though this one has more HP, in my opinion my 11 towed the same trailer better than my 16.

Meanwhile you're upside-down for the better part of forever and at risk of a total screw-over if someone hits and totals your truck.

Plus a lot of times the dealers will mark up the interest rates a bit -- so the longer a loan they can put you on the more they line their pockets.

If you want a vehicle payment for life follow the dealer's plan.

Sorry i forgot to mention im leasing the 2014. And it would be a new lease for the new one, in the end. i don't really own it...and i think in another 4-5 years i may be looking at a Tundra...so keeping it is not my end game..

No issues with it...just since this 3.5 is a new engine (not sure if it was in any of the other Toyata vehicles before the taco) can i expect the same type of "no issues" with a Toyota engine?

IF you are leasing, dump your 14 (look at the all numbers, for early lease termination), and get the 17 Pro. Then after 3 years, get a Tundra.

My LX570 is leased through my business. It is a 36 month lease. Usually around the 27-30 month, local dealers will send me ads to swap out the lease for something else. It is key to look at all the numbers.

I don't live in your household, and don't have access to your financial info. Thus making this decision for you isn't something I can do. Only you know the right decision for you.

    Good luck.

Agreed, so long as the fine print and "due at signing" doesn't screw you over.

Renting a vehicle changes the equation. It's never been the right thing for me, as I typically keep them a minimum of four years and sometimes for ten or more years.

With everything everyone else has stated, i would agree if i purchased this 2014, and was moving to a new one, it wouldn't be the greatest of ideas.
But in terms of a lease, if it cost me nothing to get out of it...and i can get a new truck...it can't be "that" bad?
i know the dealer will be making money on my truck, its extremely low millage, for 2014..

No need to justify it to me. Do it then. Instead of posting, post pictures of your new truck.
