All I can saw is WOW.

I went to a "local" off road park (Kansas Rocks) for a big yearly off road event called Kansas Crawl. I went with our local Jeep club, so I was with 100's of Wranglers all day. I was completely impressed with the ability of the Tacoma (I've had 12 Jeeps). We did some rock crawling, went through some deep mud and even climbed a black diamond hill. One of the Jeep guys asked me what kind of lockers I had and was floored when I told him i didn't have any! He was pretty amazed at how well the Tacoma was doing!

I do have the full OME lift and 265/70/17 Falken Wildpeak AT3W's, but other than that its completely stock. I love this truck even more than I did before! Now I just need to get some armor for next time!

How are the wildpeaks on the highway?

Additionally, since you have had 12 Jeeps, how do you compare the Tacoma to them? Just as capable, more capable ?

The Wildpeaks are awesome on the highway. Very quiet and handle great. I would say the Tacoma is just as capable as the Wrangler assuming they are equipped similarly (mild lift and decent tires). There were some heavily modified Wranglers out there that I know the Tacoma couldn't hang with, but your're talking about $70k plus rigs..

The taco is the wranglers equal with the exception of approach/departure angles, and suspension articulation. Aside from that, it's a solid machine.

So basically they are not equal. That is three big things you listed holding it back... That isn't even considering the front locker on the Rubicon. Guess the Forester is about equal to the Tacoma with exception to those three things and a little ground clearance?

Basically. The taco is good, very good even. But it's not a wrangler. Flip side is, the Tacoma is better at life than the jeep, it's more comfortable, nicer to drive, has a bed, more reliable...

Yes. It has definitely exceeded my expectations (and the Wrangler crew I was with). Let me clarify....The terrain we were on last weekend, they were equal. I never found the limit of my Rubicon when I owned it, but not because of the terrain I was on. MY limit is much lower than the full capability of either vehicle.

I hear about unreliability of Jeeps all the time. Why is that? I would think the Wrangler is a very uncomplicated platform with simple technology?

I wish. My wife was with me and she was on the edge of cardiac arrest the whole time, so she didn't get any pics. She got lots of pics of parked Jeeps and all the competitions they had going on though. Honestly I didn't even think about pics until after we were done. I was too focused on just surviving..Lol

Like I mentioned earlier, I have had 12 Jeeps (Wranglers, Cherokees, Grand Cherokees) and only had 1 that was "unreliable". The 2005 Grand Cherokee had a lot of electrical issues. All of my other Jeeps were 100% reliable. Just normal wear and tear items and maintenance.

Any particular reason you chose the Sport over the OR? Just curious.

Because I knew I was going to upgrade the suspension anyway and they look better visually to me. I didn't care about crawl control and I can add lockers later if I need them (never "needed" them in my Jeep that had them).

Awesome. +1 for some armor. I bent my OEM running boards on my second time out, and am having some heavy duty rock sliders installed tomorrow

I took my predator steps off before the event. I'm glad I did because I definitely would have ripped them off (the actual steps, not the bars they attach to)!
