People who are waiting are waiting for the 17s :)

Ouch. It was $33k for the TRD ORDC plus tax and licensing. 4% was because we're doing six years (keeping the payments in the 300s with $10k down). My credit is goodish - 742.

I'm not going to take a $5k loss. I'm trying to figure something out - but sounds like I won't be able to. $2k hit I could think about.

Anyway, thanks for (most of you) not kicking a man while he's down ;)

By the way, mine is a '17 and brand new in every way.

Let's step away from the money and think about the truck for a minute. The money is just lousy but a good part of the problem is confiscatory tax laws in California. I personally think you can get more places with a 2X4 and a rear diff locker than a 4X4 without one all other things (tires, etc) being equal. Do you plan on adding mods to the SR5? You are already going to be out $5k from the 'trade.'

Wait. I've been waiting for a guy like you to chime in. You have a 4x4 but think the pre runners can get more places? Love to hear how this works.... As far as me, I would just hit the mountains 6-8 times a year around here (usually plowed road with ice patches) but also Yosemite and driving to Seattle once or twice a winter. I have two little kids. Just wanna make sure we're all safe.

No mud, no deep sand. Not really. But I do go to Joshua Tree. Just don't tear through the desert.

Its your money but if I were you I'd hold onto the truck awhile.

See if you can get by with the 2 wheel drive plus locker with your off road. If you can't then upgrade.

I think if you upgrade the tires you'll be fine because we don't get any crazy snow here in CA.

Also I think you might have buyers remorse if you downgrade from a TRD off-road to an SR5.

IF OP is serious about getting rid of his truck, it doesn't hurt to try, besides it is a Tacoma. When I was shopping for my 3rd gen late last year some dealers tried selling me their last 2015's for just as much. One thing I learned a long time ago when I used to sell cars is that people out there are all in weird financial situations. I'm sure there is at least one person out there who's in the market for this truck and would prefer to buy through private party. The tricky part here is finding that person.

Minute it is registered and has miles it isn't brand new. It is used. As I said I bought a brand new 2016 WRX in 2015. Had it less than 30 days and 800 miles. It was a used car.

I have a solution for you.. why don't you go off-roading on a trail to test your 4x2's abilities. Then you will know how much you really need the 4x4. I will suggest a trail like cleghorn, rowher flats or even Gorman. There is a variety of different surface conditions at those places. If you like, I can tag along with you in my truck in case you get stuck.

With a trade wont you only pay the tax on the difference? If so, thats not much. Also, it may be hard to loose the TRD OR features, going to a SR5. But if you want a 4x4, go get it, pay the money and continue on with life. Also, check with some credit unions. 740s credit score should have you below 2% on a new vehicle.

I don't care where I would ever live,I could never willingly leave a dealership with a 2wd truck. Makes my stomach turn just thinking about it. I went in to my dealer looking for a trd sport 4x4,left with a quicksand trd OR double cab with premium/tech package. No regrets.

I miss having a large bed that's for sure. Came from a 2015 tundra crewmax so it's not night and day but definitely miss the extra space.

In most states there is a few days time before a contract becomes a "contract". You can take it back and they have to give you your money back. In the Peoples Republic of Maryland that is 3 days on everything (except a used car). YMMV

Rescission and the “Cooling Off” Rule
Depending on the state, and the type of contract, you may be able to change your mind, or “rescind” the contract if your decision is made within a specific time period. Whether there is a rescission period or not will depend on if there is a rescission clause in your contract. Even if there is no such clause, the laws of your state may allow it. Many state statutes stipulate that you have three days to rescind an offer, even after you agree to all the terms. This is often seen in real estate contracts, for instance. The FTC also has a “cooling off” rule, which allows you to change your mind within 72 hours of a purchase made inside your residence, or a seller’s temporary place of business. The cooling off rule requires the salesperson to explain your cancellation rights at the time of the sale and give you a cancellation form. There are, however, many exceptions to the cooling off rule under the FTC. A common misconception about the cooling off rule is that it applies to cars when there is a temporary dealership set up. While you may be able to buy a cancellation contract from the dealer to get more time to decide, this is based on contract law, not the FTC rule. To learn more about the cooling off rule, go to the FTC website.

Sometimes when I'm off-roading I wish I had a short bed. But when I load my motorcycles in the back, I'm glad I went with the long bed.
