There was someone on here on another tread who said he works for Toyota as a tech, and said it was. He also said the new part has the same part number, with only a hash mark to tell them apart.
However, nothing has officially been said by Toyota corp, that I know of yet and in my experience with other makes/models, anytime you replace a oem part it generally has something different in some form or mark than can tell it apart from the one that the vehicle had from the assembly line.

    Hope that helps
    Cheers!

    Good to know.
This is the second one I've heard so it sounds less likely to happen than a howling diff lol.
I'm in the same case as OP, I need my vehicle for getting to work so any day it isn't running is a day I'm losing money.
I'm buying toyota for reliability so hoping it has it still lol.

Plus I'll be out on the trails and touring parts of canada, so can't have it breaking down on me.

I'd take a howling diff over this. My last taco was a 2006 with 215000 miles. No problems

There's at least one member here who bought a spare one (CPS) just for that purpose. But honestly, Toyota is well aware of this issue and I don't feel anyone should have to fork a $100 dollars when they've already spend good money. They need to recall them, period!

    Cheers!

Considering you said your brakes went when the truck died yep, I'd say so.

I wonder if JDM 4Runners broke down as often and lemoned as often as Tacomas have been

Power assist. Brakes are hydraulic and will only go "out" if a line blows

I've had two 4R, traded the '13 old for the taco and never an issue. My new one (4R) never an issue so far it's looking good.
My Taco has been stellar so far I do love it, but won't love it if I start having issues that everyone here has. I own Toyota for their legendary reliability and build quality, not because I'm a fan.

    Cheers!

I have had LC all my life. Bulletproof. 2 Tacos (no issues yet), but who knows.

TR4 Pro is amazing and bulletproof.

Just explain what happened and let them do the warranty work. Hopefully it's an open and shut case for you. Good luck
