They didn't want to do it the first day that I went in. So I walked out. This was on a Monday. They called me back Thursday morning and asked if I was still in the market for a truck, and I told them that I wasn't at their numbers, but if they could meet mine then I would be. Called me back that afternoon and said that they could manage my price on the new truck but could only get to within $500 of what I wanted for my trade. I said that if that was the case that I wanted them to throw in a spray-in bedliner at no cost. Sales guy said he'd have to talk to his manager, etc. etc. (the usual bs), so I said "Ok. Tell him that if you can do it, I'll buy it, and I'll be over after work tonight to give you a cash deposit. If you can't, I won't"
Put me on hold for about 10 seconds and came back with a yes, lol.

But-
As a general rule, the higher the MSRP the more room a dealership has to work with. And the big 3 all seem like they enjoy overpricing the MSRP's on their trucks and then giving you 'rebates' and 'discounts' to get back down to more reasonable levels, so you can use that when you're negotiating too. For instance, when I went in they were already offering something like $4500 in discounts & rebates off of the MSRP through Ford, before we even started. And my sales guy was probably having a bad month, if he was willing to chase me that much.
The crazy thing is that even with dragging them down that much, they must have still made a profit, or else they wouldn't have agreed to the deal.
