Also, ever have that ball hitch pop off? Have you considered a pintle hitch?

Been thinking about getting one of these tents. Where do you store your ice cooler and gear etc when you sleeping at night?

Looks like a tent with a built in garage for your truck

Yes, I have done a pintle hitch before but it's just not worth the extra clanking and noise you have to endure ALL the time... it just never goes away. I do about 15,000 miles a year with my trailer, a lot of it off-road, and that noise would just drive me totally crazy. I like a noiseless trailer so thats why I've gone with the set-up I have now and run the Timbren One Ton long arm suspension. The trailer makes no noise. But if you're a chopped fender kinda guy then yeah a pintle would be an easy install instead of the standard ball... I just don't need one.

I love the idea of a RTT but not sure I can justify the price of one when I will probably only use it 6-8 times a year and when not in use it would take up a fair amount of space.
I'm really considering getting an awning tent. I figure having it somewhat built into the vehicle is one less thing to take up value space in the bed.

Is the tent really as bad as I've heard for storing?

Tents are great just don't ever camp where it can rain.... Have you ever had to pack up camp in the pouring rain? Folding up a wet tent sucks and getting back into one that evening is even worse. They take up less space but take time to set-up and take down. Everything has their pluses and minuses for sure. Spent years in tents... like my hard walls now. :)

Or when you wake up hung over in a blizzard. I once round house kicked my own tent down because I was camped back in the woods and there was no way my subaru was getting me out if the road got snowed over lol

Every time I've gone camping I've been in ground tents, always have a tarp over the tent. But I feel that would be even harder with the added height of a rtt.
I'm considering a trailer like yours but where I live parking is tough so storing it would be a problem. I'd need to find a relatives or friends place that I can store it at.

I have rented them before and they're great. I'm considering them. Might end up just sticking with a ground tent

A good start is using a tent that doesn't necessitate having a tarp over it to work well :boink:

Lol I've had good tents that claim they don't need it. In the 10-15 min it takes me to set up a tarp it's worth the peace of mind I won't be waking up wet.

This was at a Scale RC event so I put all the expensive RC stuff in the back seat and put my cooler, table, chairs under the bed. I was the only one in the camp ground so I didn't care

    Thanks man!

Weird. I've extensively used many models of North Face, Marmot, Mountain Hardware, and REI tents in all seasons and never had a big issue with that, aside from user error related incidents.
What're you camping in if you don't mind me asking?

This! In all my years of backpacking (when I used a tent) I never woke up wet even once. And I've ridden out torrential downpours on the east coast.

That being said, I love my hammock! Easy up and down, even while raining. Nearly 10 years now. It's the comfort that can't be beat.

(I'm picking up our first tear drop trailer next week...)

I just can't get over sleeping with my feet elevated. We have hammocks too and use them all the time but not for sleeping in. View watching, relaxing, that sort of thing. Sleeping.... nope.

Congrats in the Teardrop!!!! You'll love it!

Currently have a North face actually.
When I got it I set it up in my yard and soaked it with the hose. It was fine.
But ever since I was a little kid camping with my family always set up tarps. Never had great tents back then so just have the habit of throwing a tarp. Doesn't take long. Plus the tarp i find provides a bit extra shade. And if I wake up ave need to piss I can do it without getting wet lol.

Pretty much all tents are water resistant. So tarp is added protection

I always want camping with cheap Coleman tents so just got used to it lol.

Partially thinking awning and ground tent set up. No more tarp just pitch the tent right beside under the awning.
Might even just buy a swag for when it's just me ava the pooch.

Before the RTT, I've definitely camped on a ground tent under a ghetto foxwing(my awning with a tarp ziptied in a foxwing-like way).

Really enjoyed it. Nothing beats a RTT though, nothing compares. Short of a camper/trailer, that is.
