So my Aux battery install went well! Put in maybe 4 hours Saturday until I ran out of light, and maybe 2 on Sunday to finish up. Here are a few pics!

    IMG_20160925_184831.jpg
Where I mounted the control switch.
    IMG_20160925_184747.jpg
In front, the ML-ACR. Behind it, a 150 amp circuit breaker for the Aux battery line.
    IMG_20160925_184739.jpg
Blue Sea fuse block mounted behind the stock battery and fuse block.
    IMG_20160925_184725.jpg
The battery box holds an Optima yellow top and another 150 amp circuit breaker. It is screwed down to the bed so I won't worry about it going anywhere.

I still need to wire up the two voltage monitors, but I'm not sure where to put them.
I also need to fab some kind of cover for the bed pocket space that I ran the wires through. I'm thinking a thin sheet of plywood that I spray with bedliner attached with double sided mounting tape. Drill a couple holes through for the cables. Simple.
Finally I want to waterproof the holes mounting the box to the bed. Just in case.

Does this allow you to charge each battery as needed like with an auto switch? Sorry I guess I'm confused as to how this switches from battery to battery. Also how much did all this end up costing you?

Yes the control switch has 3 positions, on (Connected), off (disconnected), and auto. Auto will monitor the two voltages and connect the two when necessary to keep them both charged. The ML-ACR also has a manual override switch on the top to forcibly connect or disconnect the batteries.

All in all it cost me around $800. Half of that was just the ML-ACR and the battery. And the 50 feet of 0/1 gauge cable. That shit is expensive!

Do the Optimas need to vent? If so, you might not want to waterproof the battery box.

Here's one of the radio post install.
    IMG_20160626_124624.jpg

    And the subs.

    IMG_20160626_124632.jpg

The subs are a JL Audio CP212-W0V3 Dual 12" enclosure and are actually for sale for $300. Too loud for an AC truck.
The radio is a Pioneer AVH-X3700BHS. I like it a lot! Simple and effective.

Ever try flipping the subs around so they fire down?

Well the box has vents where the cables enter/exit. The only thing I want to seal is where I screwed the box down to the bed. A piece of duct tape will do it. No need to go overboard. The box itself is waterproof but not airtight.

Yeah I have tried a few different things, but they put out close to 90 dbs if I remember correctly. And I'd like to severely downsize so I can regain some storage space.

There's a few feet of "open space" a little further back. I'm sure the 90dbs would still fire through the sheet metal just fine...

Ya I got my wife a set when she became a buyer cause she flies so much. After trying them I got a pair. They are the best. Especially on the prop planes I generally take.

I've got the quiet comforts too.

Just a thought, I have the same battery box on my camper and I actually drilled a few drain holes in the bottom. From the factory, it had nothing and over time water collected in the box through the vents and just sat in the bottom of the box. I drilled 4 holes so any water that did make it in had a path to get out.

I'm already going to get myself in enough trouble with the cops after I install a PA system...

Huh good to know. I worried about water flowing in as it collected in the bed. Maybe I'll leave the holes unsealed. Hmm.

    Jason nailed it.

Haven't had the alcohol induced one in many many years..and for most of my life I was immune to them.

I want to do a double side-by-side mounted setup for my truck when my battery craps out (which will likely happen this winter) - looks good dude! Keep us posted on how well it works.

Great idea! The only thing that kept me from doing a side by side was the cost of a new battery holder. They cost as much as the battery! But at least you won't have to worry about someone stealing your battery. I need to lock mine down somehow.
